Think about this

LS 500 with a 3.5 liter V 6 twin turbocharged engine? No thanks.

Large piece of glass ornamentation on the interior portion of the doors? Utter disaster waiting to happen in the event of a side impact collision.

I'm not a fan of the V6, but I will guess that it will be very successful. Some people just don't care about whether it's a V8 or not. Just say the word "turbo" and people start drooling. I'm not one of them, but many are.

The only cool thing I'm really looking forward too is when guys gutting the stock turbos and replace them with a large aftermarket one.

600-700HP shouldn't be a problem, its just whether or not the tranny and drivetrain can handle it

6 speed swaps might soon follow..... that would be really something

Well time will tell, I'd expect the usual growing pains just like the LS460 had at the beginning (that people never seem to forgive). But Lexus os a quality brand that usually puts a lot of thought, care and engineering into their line. Turbos do worry me but they're everywhere now, I've got think they've improved in reliability, etc.

As much as I hate to say this, the V6 has more power and torque than the V8. No one has driven it yet, so who knows what it'll be like.

As for the glass, is this a joke? I think being concerned about a small amount of glass on a door panel might be the least of your worries in a side impact collision. I think the much larger glass WINDOW just above the ornamentation and maybe the other VEHICLE in the event of a side impact collision might be slightly more important. Also last time I checked, there were air bags everywhere in the LS.

LOL, if the glass were a safety hazard it wouldn't be there. I'm sure it's laminated and won't shatter or break in the event of a collision. How can a small piece of ornamental glass be dangerous when you are literally surrounded by glass in a car? Think critically about that. In any event the glass is one optional trim. Don't like it? Don't get it.

I for one have faith that Lexus can make a reliable TR V6, I'm not worried about that.

If you have been following threads on the LS460 especially with some miles on them it is not exactly "super reliable".

I hope Lexus has at least properly designed its suspension to be durable and last on the LS500. Aside from the turbo from the last Supra turbo I would rather have a V8 over 6 cylinder turbo but time will tell if the LS500 turns out to be reliable or it has its share of expensive issues and the turbo did not turn out to be a good idea.

It's super reliable for what it is, a "luxobarge" as the OP described it.

And the suspension issues you speak of were corrected in 2011, so a 2017 LS460 won't suffer from premature control arm wear. Air suspension is another issue, but thats an issue across the board and always has been on the LS, was on the 400, 430 and will be on the 500 too. Nobody has found a way to make a long term reliable air suspension setup.

I think it's more to do with manufacturers building cars that meant for the junkyard after the warranty period expires. The lengths they're going to in order to meet emissions standards stretch reliability to it's limits.

If they do a V8 it will be in a high performance LS-F or something that won't be desirable or will be out of reach for most.

Like it or not 6 cyl power is here to stay. Even MB is coming out with a base 6 cyl S Class.

I'm sure we will see a V8 LS, but it's going to be an LS-F or some other considerably more expensive car than the LS500, if that weren't the plan they wouldn't have called the V6 the "500".

The LS500 is already going to be more expensive than the LS460, again if I'm paying more than $100k I'm going to buy an S550.

I don't know? These manufacturers seem to market these turbo 6's as their premier option, and the better V8's are getting pushed to the back ground. It's all about fuel economy "expectations", even though when it's all said and done the 8 probably ends up getting better fuel mileage (and better reliability).

All they've talked about for the past year is this turbo charged V6, it'd surprise me if the V8 was the big deal.

I'm actually intrigued & excited for the turbo V6 in this LS - knowing it'll be sold in 90 countries, I'm confident the Lexus engineers are meticulous in designing not only performance but reliability. Given that the Ecoboost has done so well in mass-market vehicles, you throw in the Lexus brand and more $$, the LS500's V6 should be something to talk about...
