Has anyone changed out the wood trim in their LS460 to a different finish? Was it difficult, expensive? I see a 2009 or 2010 LS460 for a good deal, 47K miles for a little over $21K but it has that ash or greyish wood trim that I do not like at all and I would probably want to change it to the cherry brown if I got it.

 

Unless you could source the parts from a salvaged car, it would be VERY expensive. Like, $6-7k+ expensive.

I would give myself some time to get used to that trim, IMHO thats one of the best combinations in the LS460.

 

You're going to pay a mint for those pieces, better off finding another car if it bothers you that much.

 

I would wait for a salvaged car, maybe if it pops up on ebay, or maybe someone would just like to trade. No way would I spend thousands of dollars to do it. It is not something I would have to do or do right away but I just don't care for the color/look of that trim and may want to change it up eventually.

 

I agree with Steve.... The trim will grow on you..... It is really quite elegant.... If you really dislike it, best to get another vehicle...

 

Plenty of late model LS's out there with the right woodgrain for you and you shouldn't have to change it out.

 

I would look into that digital water transfer process that can get you hundreds of different shades of wood if you really must change it and can't find salvaged one. Just a thought

 

I too thought about it. I have cherry brown wood trim with tan interior. Since I like contrast colors, thought about getting black or grey wood trim!. I think we should exchange trims!!!!.

I haven't done much research on it. However, when we change wood trims, need to include steering wheel and gear shift selector (center console) piece as well.

Just did some googling. One thing I'd worry about...these trim pieces seem very thin and delicate, I'd worry about cracking them on a removal and install. I'd love to hear of anyone who's removed them without damaging them, I know there's some talented members on here (personally I'm terrible with interiors - I'm not a fan of interior work).

 

And remember the steering wheel and shift **** leathers won't match.

 

Lookng at your link, the after-market "wood" trim isn't actually real wood. The LS460 uses real wood. That's part of its appeal, as with other high quality materials that makes the LS a true luxury car.

 

The steering wheel wood trim is probably almost impossible to switch out unless you replace the whole wheel, I would probably just leave that alone, I was thinking everything else. If I end up getting one with the grey/ash and don't like it the more I live with it I will give you a heads up for a trade.

I looked up some of those companies/new trim, they are more or less stickers that you stick over your existing wood, I don't want to do that. Before my GS got totaled I was looking on ebay and they had many OEM center consoles and trim pieces for sale for cheap, I was thinking of doing of getting one and trying sanding it and then doing a light birds eye maple polyurethane stain or dark cherry or Bombay mahogany and seeing how that turns out. I did not care for the orangish wood in my GS, it looked really fake too.

 

That would be the thing I would worry about, does the trim just pop out by putting pressure on a certain area or is it really tough and a possibility of cracking or breaking.

 

I've seen a couple of people do vinyl overlays on the wood trim that came out pretty clean and stock looking. Just an alternative to consider and a WHOLE lot cheaper then actually switching the parts.

I would just wait until the right interior/configuration came along. IMO. a steering wheel with different wood than the rest of the interior won't look very good.
