LS460 from Russia with engine problem
Hi guys!
im from Russia.
I have the 2007 LS460. At a run of 125 000 kilometers, cranked the crankshaft insert\liner
the engine began to knock.
my friend (used LS460 2008), too, after 120 thousand, cranked liners.
What's the problem with this fu@@ing Lexus?
I think it's an oil engine starvation.
How is this possible?
what is the problem?
Can you know such a problem?
Regards,

First question I'd ask - what kind of oil are you using there and how often you change it ?
Lexus motor is one of the most reliable things and it's very rare to have this problem at about 70K-80K miles ( 125K km).

This is the first engine failure I've heard about (yours and your friend's), The oil used in your case should not be the cause, as there are many members here who use 5W30 with no issues, Toyota recommends TGMO 0W20, but I know for a fact that dealers will also use 5W30. If I were you, I'd replace the engine with a used unit and there are many on Ebay for about 2K dollars and free shipping.

Where did you buy this car from and how long ago ? Have you checked Carfax and consistency of mileage ? Many dealers buying high mileage cars in US, roll back speedometer to increase value of a car and export it. It's a very easy procedure on Lexus cars. It's sad, but true.

Odd that you know of TWO failures, yet we havent heard of any. Someone or something has happened to the engines and I doubt it has anything to do with Lexus.

^^^ Agreed. Oil consumption is one thing, even some reported cases of hesitation. But outright engine failure on the LS...or Lexus vehicles period, its just not that common of an occurrence, and you have two before you. There seems to be a common denominator there, but like greg stated, I strongly doubt that its simply the fault of engine.

I would say some sort of mistreatment has absolutely happened here.

Not just that apparently. French or even counterfeit oil (with completely wrong params), bad gas (and many use snake oil additives there), heavy foot and (of course) not being able to understand the inner workings of a modern day engine (he mistook vvti actuator for idle control motor while trying to sell off the parts. needless to say, i'd stay away from ANY part from such an engine, well perhaps an engine cover if it aint that dirty )))

This is a very common problem in Russia. A car with a real run. Measured compression in cylinders - 12 bar. So it is, I bought the engine with a broken car. Because the new engine costs one million six hundred thousand rubles (= 30,000 USD).
