What non-Lexus vehicle did you cross-shop when you bought your LS?

A 2007-8 AMG S65 and a 2013 300 SRT with leather dash package were the competing choices in the same price range. Considering what I use the 2011 LS460 Sport for (long trips and commuting to work on nice days), I made the right choice. Solidifying that, it's comical how much faster the other 2 have depreciated in the last 2-1/2 years vs. the LS460.

I would have got another BMW if their 2001+ styling wasn't so butt-ugly.

Yep, these LS hold their value.
2013 Audi A7 Prestige, which has almost the same price as a 2013 LS base RWD is roughly going for $10k less!
2013 S7s, which are about $15k MORE than a base RWD LS is selling for roughly the same price now used.

The only real other car I considered was an E92 BMW 3 Series. The E92 is the coupe version whereas E90 is the sedan of the last 3 Series as now it is the F30 gen. I was only interested in the 6 speed manual with iDrive and also xDrive.
However, I do not think I found one that was not leased. Problem there being most treat them as glorified rental cars and have zero issues with BMW's 15,000 OCI (since changed to 10,000 miles per bulletin)
While I know it has a sensor telling it when it is time to change the oil, the fact that maintenance is covered by BMW during the years of the lease, will only say it seems convenient... The few folks I know who actually purchased their BMW's don't go further than 7500 miles between oil changes.

The sad truth is that there really isn't any other luxury sedan to get if your using it as a daily driver work horse
I like the supercharged Jag's but to me they are more of a weekend car or a secondary car, they don't seem fit to be a daily although I could be wrong
I looked and looked and looked, and the 460 is/was the only logical upgrade option for me

Why couldn't you drive the Jag as a daily?

Pole Position
Audi A8, Cadillac CTS, Mercedes ES350, Chrysler 300, BMW 535, Infiniti Qsomething or another, Lincoln MKS (the Matthew McConaughey commercials really scared the crap out of me).

About 10 years ago I literally inherited enough money to purchase most any car I wanted and really got into the minutiae in terms of long term ownership and will only say I purchased an M45. Held out on Lexus then as almost my entire family owns one. Was tortured over my almost lifelong wish to own a 911 and they seem to actually be more reliable than many of their fellow countrymen,

I would daily drive an XJ and not even worry about it. But bear in mind I was shopping new.

Since the change in ownership, Jaguar certainly seems to be on an upward trajectory. The XJ is a beautiful car and I was utterly impressed when I drove one. It would seem that resale value should also rise as reliability seems to have gone up.
I have actually been looking for a XJR for a second car. One from the Ford PAG era as they really are a blast to drive and stupid cheap. I realize repairs can get absurdly expensive, but thinking more as a backup car.

If you are into Jag's you should look into the 07-09 XKR's(supercharged V8 420 HP), they are reasonably priced and about as reliable as any good brands from what I can tell.
I joined the forums there and been trolling them for almost a year , no engine failures, tranny failures, very minor issues here and there that's about it.
They ran the same V8 from about 1997 to 2009, so by the time the 07's came out they had that engine well figured out and mastered.
They switched to a 5 litre v8 in the 2010 model and apparently they are good but working out some bugs here and there.
They also use a very common tranny found in many different model cars, so if the worst happened you will find an abundance of parts and replacements for a good price.
I was thinking of selling my z06 to get one but I never got serious about it.
