Default Moving from a 1999 LS400 to a 2007 LS460

Hello All,
I have been on this forum for some time but not a major contributor at any point. I have been driving and enjoying my 1999 LS400 for 6+ years now. The car has had extremely minimal issues to this point but it had become time to upgrade. I have been looking on and off for about a year for a replacement. I have driven a few 2010's a 2011 and a 2012 but all of them had some song and dance story or just didn't feel right. I had the opportunity to drive a 2007, 1 owner, garage kept vehicle, and it drove like a dream. I was surprised how solid the 2007 felt compared to even some of the newer models that I have driven.
In any case, I cannot wait to pick the car up and become a contributing member to these forums. Thanks for the space and pics will follow.

Looking forward to the pics and updates. Congrats and welcome to our little corner of CL. If you love this car as much as I have these past 3 years, you're going to be very happy.

The 460 is a fine automobile that you will love to own and drive.

The car is Black Sapphire Pearl over Alabaster Leather. I love the combo.

Very nice indeed. I too recently purchased a 2007 SWB LS460. I believe Black Sapphire Pearl is a relatively rare color as I and many others here have the Obsidian Black, but yours is the first I have read about lately in the Black Sapphire Pearl.

How many miles and what options? Looks awesome from the shot provided and look forward to seeing other pictures! I went from a 430 to the 460, but my time in the 430 was less than 6 months so nothing compared to 6 years.

The 400 is a stone cold classic, that said, even the 2007 looks like a contemporary car and to a non car person could pass for a newish car. That is decidedly a big advantage when purchasing the first year of a model that while not expected to have gone 10 years, would have been thought to go 5-6 years.

I know some caution against purchasing the first year, but from spending a great deal of time going over maintenance records on 460's between 2007-2010, there are very few 2007 specific issues. I think the Valve Spring recall might have just been a 2007 thing, but for some reason I am thinking some 2008's might too have needed the fix.

Black Sapphire Pearl is my color and pretty much blue. Nobody I tell that its called black can believe it. So it looks like we have the same car. Good choice.

I upgraded from a 168K mile '97 LS400 Coach Edition to a 2012 LS460 Sport Edition about 8 mo. ago. Loved my LS400, but there's no looking back and clearly no comparison. The 460 Sport drives like a dream, even though I don't drive it very sporty.

Don't discount the 430, guys... There are many people who believe the 430 was the Zenith of the LS line. Granted, they're getting on in years now, but between a 2006 low mileage 3rd gen or a 2007 4th gen, I think I would take the 06. That being said, I feel both generations look better than mine...

I have much love for the 430 and originally purchased one even though I could have gotten a ratty 460 for the same money. Granted, had the 460 I ended up purchasing been available when I purchased my brother's 2005 LS 430 Ultra Luxury, I would have gotten that. However, not having to pay sales tax as it was a immediate family member sale saved me a fortune as Tennessee assesses a 7% tax on car sales.

They are fantastic cars no doubt. I just love the way the 460 looks comparatively and very much prefer the overall driving experience. In addition, the difference in Mark Levinson systems is of a magnitude not easily described.

I don't think anyone's "discounting" it, they're just being realistic. As you will see from other posts, those who had a 430 would not go back. That shouldn't surprise anyone. You would pick the '06, but most wouldn't. Aesthetics alone (I think the 430 is very homely looking), would tip the scales, not to mention the tech side of things. The slightly better ride and marginal increase in reliability, would not sway me. I have not been in any other car that rides better or looks better than my 08. The 430 may ride better, but I've never driven in one to know. But it certainly rides better than my BMW 7 series did and anything else I've owned.

You'll be very happy with the 460. I wish I could have gone directly to the 460 from my 400, but I didn't want to spend that much money. I went with the 430 and while it was an ok car, I never cared for it as much as my 400. I LOVE my 460.
