Default 2008 LS460 after battery change problem

Guys I have a 08 Lexus ls460 and after changing a battery this morning. I had the navigation screen show this message. A programme can not be read. Please consult dealer. After reading up here come to find out that I'm suppose to change the battery while the car is running. I screwed up so now what are my options.

You're "suppose to change the battery" while the car is running? Never heard of that and did you read that in your manual.

I'd disconnect the battery and try again. And I sure the hell wouldn't change the battery when the car is running. And I pray that you didn't accidentally put the terminals on the wrong way.

Please don't disconnect the battery with the engine running - that may damage your car's electrical system.

One of the causes of dead batteries in these cars is leaving the car with the ignition on and the engine not running. it's pretty easy to do.

When you leave the ignition on and fully discharge the battery, you can not turn the ignition off until you have power restored to the car. The cars electronics are initialized when the ignition is first turned on after the battery has been disconnected and reconnected. If you make the battery connection with the ignition on, the initialization process is often interfered with because the power source is unstable during the initialization and that causes an error.

So, you need to make sure that the ignition is off - that's when there are no lights showing in the instrument cluster. If the ignition is on, you can only turn it off when the car has a good battery. Then, disconnect the negative cable from the battery for a few minutes and reconnect it. With your foot off the brake, turn the ignition on - that takes two pushes to pass through accessory power to ignition on - and allow a couple of minutes for the car's system to initialize. The initialization process will be indicated in the instrument cluster or the nav display, don't remember which.

How old was the battery that was in your car? I recently charged a battery that would barely register on a voltmeter. It has sat in the cold for 2 days and started again. Maybe an Optima 400 charger could have helped you.

I don't ever remember someone posting to change the battery while the car is running, but I would not do that.

Disconnect the battery and wait a full minute. Then connect the positive terminal first and then the negative. When you disconnect, it's neg first and then the pos.

Guys,

I did not leave the car running when I changed my battery and no I did not connect the negative with positive and positive with negative.

Here is the club lexus post that I saw which recommends changing the battery while leaving the car running

I can't believe what i am reading here. I have changed the battery twice on my '08 460 with nary a problem, and without hooking aux power or "with the engine running..." Each time, it was several minutes that the car had no battery installed and, to my amazement, memory for all radio channels, seat positions, etc were maintained.
