That's a good point. My car has 102K on it and I know the ride has deteriorated, but ever so gradually. I think I will change them out regardless of the visual inspection. I'll wait to see what Chris recommends.

So for my whole career I witnessed customers bringing their cars in with new shocks and all kinds of brake components from tire shops they were sold while getting new tires. They were told shocks should be changed every so so miles etc. Same deal with brake components like calipers, brake hardware, lines etc. Funny none of these components almost ever needed top be replaced. Shocks and even front end alignments can last the lifetime of a car. Shocks can go 200k if they don't leak or fail. This is not a one in a million case. More like 75% of the time. A car doesn't need a wheel alignment without a tire wearing problem. A car can stay in alignment for many years easily. Sure things wear out and break but as a whole all you really need are fluids, filters, belts, brake pads (rotors every other time)and spark plugs TILL A PROBLEM COMES UP.

No....everything seems like normal, However, as you may know, often these types of indicators go unnoticed because the issues manifest themselves gradually. Perhaps when I replace them, I'll go, "holy crap!...THAT's how the ride should be!"

 

I agree. the whole resurfacing rotor thingy is a scam. it actually weakens the rotors causing u to eventually replace them.

 

My car has one new front strut. It's a one owner car that only went to the dealer for all service even tires. The lot that sold it to me probably changed the original leaking strut. They are a repair facility also. It feels fine and see no need to mess with changing the pair out.
On another note never let a tire shop touch or sell you anything that isn't rubber. They make dealership service departments look honest (I know that's a big statement). Tire shops that do service and Midas type chains are without question the biggest thieves in the business.

I needed a new air strut, for my 2014 EQUUS. Dealership recommended installing two, at a cost of $3000. They're $1000-$1300 each.
I found a guy on eBay with two, front/left & right for $289 each + $50 shipping. They were brand new OEM parts in their original boxes.
What a score

 

2014 Equus. Was it past warranty? Wow, the Hyundai dealers are fleecing their customers too, eh?

 

Waaay past it's warranty. It's driven 164,072 miles, since Aug 20th 2014.

 

Hopefully problems free high mileage?
