Hi guys, I'm going to hand wash my Lexus for the first time today and was just curious on what soaps and cleaners you use on the outside/inside. I was going to stop by the local O'Reilly's Auto parts.

As you well know, the options for soaps, cleaners, and interior finishers are mind boggling. I use some Meguiars products, but also Chemical Guys. I found this detailing website to be very very useful.

I think any made-for-cars car wash soap will work fine. I remember when I got my first car and how I use to use dish soap to clean it, often wondering why the wax wasn't lasting long...that was a mistake. Speciality car wash stuff usually won't strip off the wax as quickly as the heavy degreasing formula dish soap.

 

Get some good supplies and watch "The Junkman" videos on YouTube. Most scratches come from improper washing and drying. I use the two bucket method. One for soapy water and one to rinse the microfiber mitt. Buy two, if one touches the ground stop using it and grab the back up. Relatively cheap soap that is readily available is Meguiars Gold Class.

I use Meguiars Gold Class which goes on sale frequently at my local Canadian Tire store. It's the only soap I use because I find it suds up better than anything else out there and a little goes a long way. By comparison, Turtle Wax car soap is absolute rubbish. It used to be pretty good, but I decided to buy some for my RV when it went on sale, and even a half cup to a gallon of water hardly gets very sudsy.

I also used to do the "two bucket system", but I recently acquired a new bucket from Simoniz. It's a 5 gallon bucket with a removable screen at the bottom that can be removed and keeps grit down. Sells for 15.99...Here's a link to it : http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/si...-0394598p.html

As for other products, I use Meguiars Interior Detailing spray for general clean-ups and Mothers VLR for the leather and vinyl. I also highly recommend 303 Aerospace Protectant every few months for UV protection on the interior. It really is a superior product.

nothing like cleaning our cars ourselves. I'd assume we would put more effort into it, making sure the dust on the door jams was clean, wiping down all the water drips from the handles and mirrors... I personally take a lot more time on my wheels, we get tons of brake dust!

 

I use McGuirer's gold as well, although once my huge stash runs out, I may try Chemical Guys.
