Rusted rotor hat
All 4 of my rotors have rusted rotor hats (not circular rotor that the brake pads come in contact with but the "cap" on the rotot that connects to the wheel). My service shop says all rotors do that. Is that true? Are there any rotors that do not rust like this?

I just bought some Stop Tech rotors for mine that have painted hats. I've used them on my FD with no rust or chipping.

If you buy "cryo" rotors, they won't rust.
Here's what I did.....
Went to my local paint store and bought a quart jar of Rustoleum black paint. 10 minutes later it was done. After 30k miles and 18 months, no rust has returned.

Unless you just don't like the thought of rust on your rotor hat, I wouldn't worry about it. They all do that...like others said, you can paint them or buy painted ones, but it the rust does not harm your vehicle at that spot. The only problem you may ever run into is that the rotor could stick to your rim and make it difficult to remove. You can try putting antiseeze on the hat - that works - and some rotors actually come with a machined recess on the hat, designed so the rust will fill in the recess and not stick to your rim.
