It's still weird that I got the whine only on the 1st cold start but not on subsequent cold or hot starts. Maybe the exhaust manifold heated up quickly and made the noise go away, and this does not show up on the coolant temp gauge.

Thanks much, caha. Yes, everything is a recent addition: I bought the car a couple of months ago, I took the photo last weekend; and I added my signature file this week

Hey, BTW, I had some questions about the speed/rpm on your dashboard photo on the other thread. Maybe they made no sense, but I am curious to know how/why your hybrid runs at a low 1500 rpm at 70 mph!
