Default Recent Cross Country Drive Performance

I recently took my '10 LS460 with 75k mile from central FL to San Diego, CA.
I had my car full of personal "stuff", so there's some added weight involved. I set the cold tire pressure at 34 psi and used generic 91 octane or higher the whole way. I averaged 25.6 mpg driving at about 75 mph. When I went into the fuel consumption computer on the screen, it showed that at about 79 mph the economy dropped quickly. It is a great tool to find your max efficiency vs speed "sweet spot".

I have a Passport radar detector that I would never go without. I also used Waze on my Android phone. I was pretty disappointed in Waze because too many reports of vehicles on the side of the road and it shows as a hazard. Maybe at night, but pointless during the day. Also most real hazard or delay doesn't show until you're on top of it, little warning. There was a detour that had been around for days if not weeks and didn't come up and an accident that caused traffic to slow to a crawl for an hour that didn't come up either. At least this was my experience.

The car performed flawlessly and was super comfortable and quiet, making for a pleasant trip. This is what the LS is all about.

Sounds like you had a nice trip.

I use to have to drive to Portland and having the right car makes all the difference that's for sure having driven that from everything from a truck with bench seats to a semi-decent car.

So true. Up until a couple months ago I would have jumped in my 91 LS400 and driven anywhere and back without even opening the hood before or during the trip. Never missed a lick or used any oil between oil changes. Best car ever built. I wouldn't do that in my ML350. My wife tried it twice Denver to the east coast and both times she called me broke down on the highway. That's when I made her buy a 4 Runner.

How long did it take you to do that trip?

@Kennyr44 How do you/she like the 4 Runner?

It's awesome for what it is. If your interested go to the forum. It is not a unibody crossover so there are differences in drivability and comfort you have to be aware of. We really like it it meets our needs. She has no interest in driving my LS or her old ML. That's how much she likes it. Get the Limited 2014 and up for many reasons.

Always great to read these stories. We'll be cruising down to New Orleans in about a month (waiting till Mardi Gras is done). It's a 6 hour drive and I look forward to the trip.

Kinda like flying first class! Glad to hear the trip went well.

About the Waze comments. Isn't the data user dependent? Meaning it's only as good as reported so if the reporting by other drivers / users are inaccurate that's what you get?

Thanks for all the great comments. I took 4 days. 2 - 10 hr days and 2 - 8 hr days. I traveled with pets and stayed at La Quintas the whole way. They're pet friendly and their website has a trip planning tool to choose hotels along the way.

That's right. There's subjective reporting as well as objective reporting. Too much subjective to suit me. Others may love it.
