Wow. I just did that today. I used blue painter tape. It did help. It was very cold today and the tape didn't stick very well see nice the car wasn't in the garage. If you use the blue painters tape, U need to use a lot. I would almost suggest using a stronger tape like duct tape or packing tape and having to deal with the adhesive clean up.

 

I haven't used it in cold weather, but only a single layer should be needed. The purpose is to have it act as a barrier to prevent wind from entering those areas, which is all the silicone is going to do, thus multiple layers is redundant. You can use duct tape, but it's going to make a mess.

 

It was about 25 degree out when I tried applying the tape. It didn't stick. That is why I needed more layers

 

I'm sure you've checked this already, but just in case...
I too occasionally experience very bad wind noise, but it has nothing to do with the triangle piece discussed here. In my case, it's kincked windows trim (rubber moldings). I would check to make sure your trim is not folded in as it will cause a very bad wind noise.

I will post something similar on what my car sounds like over the weekend. Just to compare because the phone can be picking up other sounds. I have wind noise, but it sound rather quiet in my cabin, so I would like to compare two.

 

+1, check the vertical section that sits on the glass, especially towards the top. A few of us had a section of this trim fold under.

Of course. The dealership wants to look at it first. I haven't had time to take it in.

 

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother with the dealership...I would just do this repair myself.

 

I agree with SW15LS. the dealership will not be much help. They really can only offer changing out parts, which you might pay for. Or they do methods recognized by lexus. Which unfortunately lexus says the wind noise in the LS meets spec. Your car may be different. Take 15 minutes and cover the area with tape. You might be surprised.

 

Was wondering if anyone has tried a thin bead of clear silicone around the entire edge of the plastic trim piece. That wouldn't be as durable as the jmcraney fix, but it would be less invasive and maybe a "quick fix?"

I have very, very quiet wind noise -- not remotely as obtrusive as many of you are describing -- but I've still been thinking of experimenting a bit as I've been doing more freeway driving than usual lately and it's the windy season around here.

 

The "wind noise" problem with these cars is not about air intrusion - it is about sound intrusion. If the triangle trim is detached, the sound isolation characteristic of the car is compromised. It is very unlikely that you will realize an improvement from sealing around the edges of the trim or taping over the trim with painters tape.

 

I did the install this weekend. It is very easy to do. I was blessed with a package that came in the mail from a kind and generous member. I won't name who in case they want don't want a flood of messages. They sent me the metal pieces. I have had enough time to tell if there was an improvement or not. Today was the first day driving on the highway. I'm think it is better but I don't want to make a determination so quickly.
