Must've been a defect in the manufacturing. I don't think I've ever heard of a TQ going bad on these cars. One thing I would try to insist on is replacing the entire transmission. When a TQ goes bad it could (and very likely does) send all kinds of metal shavings and what not into the transmission. So either insist on that or an extension of your power train warranty up to at least 100k miles/ X number of years.

I'm bringing my 2010 AWD in next Fri for the same issue...can you describe the vibration you're experiencing in more detail? Mine seems to do it only during decel. at highway speeds, a rumbling type mid/high frequency vibration that can be felt on the seats, floorboard, etc. Did your dealer elaborate on how they managed to diagnose the bad torque converter?

Lexus replaces both the torque converter and the transmission as a single unit replacement, regardless which component needs replacing. That is what I was told by the Lexus Regional Rep when they replaced my transmission. By the way, they are remanufactured, not new from the factory-but rebuilt just as good as if from the factory. All internal components are replaced. My transmission had noisey planetary gears. Now it is soooo quiet and so smooth. Very happy with the transmission. Good luck!

Had the same issue with my 2013 AWD. Dealer replaced the left and right front CV axle shaft assemblies (under warranty, thankfully). The shafts were warped. Took care of the problem.

When it is vibrating, bump the shifter into Neutral. If the vibration stops, it is caused by Pinion angle.
