Default Cleaning the smog sensor

Hey guys,

I believe your 460's share the same style of smog or carbon monoxide sensor as we do. Anyway, I wanted to share our thread on the 430 side as they can easily be cleaned for increased performance. They literally snap apart and I just used standard dish soap on the filter and MAF or electronic cleaner on the sensor itself. Mine had never been cleaned and was filthy when I first cleaned it.

Wow that thing was dirty. Thanks for the post. If I ever get around to driving my car again, I'll have to check it out. Summer is motorcycle time.

Did you check the link? Look at the first page. Yours should be located in front of the radiator. Since I do not own a 460 I cannot tell you exactly. On the 430, it right next to the horn in front of the radiator. One bolt holds it in place. Maybe a fellow member can confirm this or post a pic.

I found this other thread. Does not give much more info. Hopefully a fellow owner can chime in. Can you post a pic of how yours is mounted? I'm surprised other are not jumping all over this. It is an easy diy and increases the performance of the sensor so you don't breathe in fumes.

Anyone figure out a good filter to replace in the smog filter ? it's working so so, I am almost thinking about replacing the whole thing if I cant find a filter. I know a filter should cost under $1 but, I cant find a good replacement for what is inside it.

I was careful not to destroy mine when I pulled it out. Used the compressor to blow all dust out of it then washed with soap and water and reinstalled. Not sure if it made a difference but it's so easy to do it's one of those "why not?" kind of things.

I picked my car up used, it looks like this was done to it a few times... it is falling apart, I need to replace it... this is why I am looking for a replacement. Is there a part number for the filter that I can get ?

Use a cheap furnace filter from Walmart or wherever and cut to size. Kind of cool seeing an old familiar thread brought back to life.

Just cleaned mine. 13 AWD L. I did it without disconnecting the wire harness as there is plenty of room to work. Car has around 46k on it and as you can see from the pic there was plenty of dirt in the filter, particularly near the air intake. Might have also been some spider eggs in there at one point.
