This concluded a 2 week ordeal in which I spent the first week of spare time wrongly removing the intake manifold only to find no starter under there. Note to self; do more research before wrench.
As a side note, I had odd looks from the Lexus dealer when I went to order the exhaust manifold. On a good note, the parts guy ordered me a replacement navi hard drive for $970 versus $1600. I'm almost on the way to a 100% functioning car.
Thanks again for your help!!!
Glad it worked out!

Hate to dig up an old thread but do you happen to remember what tool you used to remove the nut from the top of the engine mount insulator? Unless I'm missing something I can't for the life of me get a wrench (with any turn) or socket up in there to remove it. Love the post by the way. It was very helpful. Thank you!

Default '07 LS 460 Starter removal

Greetings Doublebase. I own a 2007 LS 460 w 119k miles. My starter just went out. When I press the brake pedal & the Start button simultaneously, I can hear the starter 'zinnnnng'. My years of experience tells me it's the starter. I found your comments within this thread and wanted to ask ~ you say you've replaced the starter. Everything i read instructs to remove the passenger side exhaust manifold along with the stabilizer bar. Did you have to do all this to replace the starter? altho' it sounds challenging, nothing could be more challenging than the 3rd gen LS 400 (where the starter is located under the intake manifold bolted to back of the engine block)!
any reply much appreciated.
Regards,
V. Gonzalez

Does anybody have a tool list required for replacing a starter... I want to attempt this at home but I want to make sure I have what I need before I begin

No special tools are needed. Just your basics metrics up to a 23mm I believe will work. Also get yourself some swivel adapters and long extensions for the exhaust manifold. Also be careful when removing the exhaust since the o2 sensor is on it. Either remove the sensor or remove the clip. Ive hear horror stories of the exhaust dropping and wires pulled out of the plug.

Question for anyone who didn't remove the whole exhaust pipe. I just removed the upper pipe exhaust to manifold. If anyone else just removed this part did you replace the old gasket or seal that was in there? Where did you buy yours?

Thanks

I ended up braking some of this plastic cover. What would anyone suggest I do? Do you think electrical taping it or just leaving as-is, is sufficient?

Thanks
