I guess I'm more sensitive to the knocking sound it emits before it reaches operating temp. coming out of a 2000 ls that is whisper quiet all the time. Anyway, I asked him what was the most miles he had seen on this model-replied 2007 was in the other day with 312,000 miles-a salesman who obviously lived on the road! Concerning transmission fluid changes-say he would not touch it-they have never seen any trouble from NOT changing the fluid. Asked why 2012 can't go to 10,000 oci like the 2013--had no answer-suggested to go to 7500 miles on the syn. 0w-20. In the end, he had nothing to say but positive things about the car and its realiability. Also, had not seen any problems with the electronics which is great to hear as I plan on keeping this 10-12 years or 200,000 miles. He did note several of the issues that have been well noted in this forum have been corrected.
Wow, nice post. Good things to hear. Personally I have changed the transmission fluid and I believe Lexus has now suggested doing the same, but it's nice to know the transmission is designed the right way and failures of these units are rare. 312,00 miles?? That's pretty impressive. Thanks for sharing.

I thought somewhere on here that Lexus no longer considers WS fluid to be a lifetime fluid and to be changed at 100k on the ls 460? There is a member on here that lives in Canada and his owner's manual says to change it at 70k miles. I've read that people in the Middle East get it changed at 50k and personally I changed mine at 72k. The fluid was dark...so dark that I thought instead of just doing a simple drain and fill, I decided to drop the pan, change the filter, clean the pan and then drove it for a week before I did another drain and fill.

It's been about ten thousand miles since I did it and it drives fine. I plan on changing it again next year - this time I'll do a simply drain and refill, I'm curious to see what the fluid looks like after 30k miles, compared to the 72k I first drained it.
