I recently purchased a CPO 2009 LS460. There was a vibration in my seat at 70 mph that I asked them to fix (tire balance). They have done it 3 times now, including road force balance, and the vibration is still there at 70 mph. I assume that it must not be the tires since they have done it 3 times. What else could it be? Should I take it to a tire store (is Lexus as good as tire stores at fixing problems like this)?

 

Most high-end manufacturer dealerships are actually better than your average tire store at balancing wheels. They "road-force" balance them - that's why they charge so much! Make sure your dealership did this. And make sure they balanced all 4 wheels. Of course, there's nothing wrong with trying a second shop (tire store) to do this. In your case, it sounds like something else may be causing the problem.

 

The lay people often confuses tire and brake people with mechanics. The dealership has technicians that are at the top of the food chain. They are highly trained people and in some cases have six figure salaries because of their expertize and accreditation where as the tire guy is paid near minimum wage for doing a repetitive job that doesn't require much skill.

 

Balancing tires is not rocket surgery. If they have tried the same thing three times and it hasn't fixed the problem it is time to take it somewhere else.

 

I totally agree and its hard to believe the Lexus dealership can't fix or correct your vibration problem. Something isn't right.

 

I've had that issue and it ended up being a warped brake rotor. You don't feel it in the steering wheel, cuz power steering isolates it, but that's what it was.

thanks...I have this vibration too (when coasting...no braking) after replacing my brake pads and tires. was yours when braking or just cruising?

I guess I'll have to take it back to do the rotors eventually, as well

 

When I purchased the car they replaced the rotors due to vibration when braking. That solved the braking vibration problem but the vibration when cruising at 70 mph continues (was there before the rotors were replaced)

 

yeah...that's what I have too but this after replacing my tires...weird. mine is very subtle but I feel it nonetheless

I even read somewhere on the CL forums that someone pinpointed the vibration as to a problem with one of the engine mounts. I guess it could be a variety of things

 

Can also be due to worn control arm bushings but you can usually feel that in the steering wheel in addition to the seat.
