Sorry to dig up an old thread by my LS has developed a very noticeable rattle on the front left side over the last few months when drving at low speeds. After reading this thread, and taking my car for a quick drive, my rattle instantly goes away too when lightly applying the brakes whilst driving slowly. A while back I removed the air strut and all of the suspension arms to properly inspect them and are all in great condition which had me scratching my head. This weekend i'll be removing the pads for sure to see what is really going on. Fingers crossed.

SO, what did you find? Is it the rubber behind the pads? I have two LS's and both rattle.

Thanks

The rattle can be caused by break pads. There is kit from Lexus that resolves the issue.

For my my front left rattle/knock = I found two issues in the end. Both are now fixed.

First issue - Quite a loud noise that instantly went away when applying the brake pedal lightly. In the end this was a worn rubber bushing in the front left lower control arm. The end bushings were fine - it was the small middle bushing that retains the bottom mounting bolt for the air strut. When the suspension was loaded - in the inner metal sleave of the bushing would move so far where it would knock the other part of the bushing. I found a replacement Febest branded bushing. $20 fix as I have a small hydraulic press in my shed that I used.

Second issue on the front left was a much quitier rattle that I always got when driving on anything other that very smooth road. This noise didn't go away by lightly applying the brakes though. In the end it was the air strut. - the noise was coming from somewhere at the top of the strut internally. I repalced the strut and the noise is gone.

I also get the common brake pad clicking noise too. When slowly reversing and lightly touching the brake paddle - I hear a click. I see there's a solution for this as menitioned earlier. Looks like you stick an extra spring clip on the caliper - cheap fix if it works.

Thanks everyone, I think someone on here mentioned that it was their break pads rattling and lexus makes a kit to fix this. I tested it on a bumpy road today by driving slowing and lightly applying the brake, when I applied the brake the nose went away.

I was reading another post about this hardware kit. Is this what they are talking about?

We are on the same part lol, I just purchased the shims and anti rattle springs but have not put them in yet. They don't look anything like that though. I'll get you the links but they are expensive. I realized that my front brakes did not have the springs when I bought the car and I only get a click sometime when braking at low speeds. I would not say it's a rattle type noise though.

These are the shims.
