You are entirely correct and I was mistaken.

The bandwidth limitations inherent in the BT transport specification require compression of music data at rates that necessitate some degree, often substantial, of data loss. While the aptX codec directly targets this issue, I can find NO documentation or clear claim that bit-perfect CD sources are (or can be) reconstructed by aptX-enabled receivers. Therefore, I conclude that current implementations of BT-transported and codec'd music is of lower fidelity than that achievable using digital transmission by direct wire or other wireless transport mechanisms (i.e. Apple Airplay). Whether these differences are readily detectable by real-world listeners in typical automotive environments is a subject for empirical testing not speculation. Thanks again for the correction.

Absolutely agree - randomised, double-blinded testing, though scorned upon by the "golden-eared" audio community, is the only way to eliminate subjective bias from the equation.
