2010 LS460 or 2013 ES350

2010 LS460 or 2013 ES350
Struggling on this one.. Would you get a used 2010 LS460 which we'd have to purchase at around $40K or lease a new 2013 ES350.
I have my local dealer at about $470/month for a luxury loaded ES350.
I'm searching around and I think I can find a 2010 LS460 still under warranty (4yr 48K) for around $40K but of course I'd have to finance it. rates are about 1.99% for penfed right now 60 months.
It's for my father who drives only 5K miles a year. He loves the big cars, but he's getting old and I want simple and safe. He's always loved the LS460 but i'm afraid of maintenance issues 2yrs down the road. I guess I can get an extended warranty? good idea?
He's probably only got 5 more years of driving or so. It's a tough call, wanted some advice on the differences.

I think most responses will be biased towards an LS. My vote is for the LS. The main thing that stood out to me is your statement that your father loves big cars. If he loves big cars, LS is the route to go. If you can find one with comfort plus package, with semi-analine leather, I'd suggest that as well. I never knew how much I'd love that leather. Hope that helps.

The new ES is a bit of an odd duck as well. In moving from the Camry to the Avalon platform, the ES has gained a ton of length (4" I believe), which it put entirely in the rear footwells. The car looks like some weird stretch limo inside. I'd give it a few years to make better use of the Avalon platform.

Tough call?! Are you kidding me?! Listen to yourself. Your Dad is obviously fairly old with only 5 more years of driving. He loves big cars, AND he has always loved the LS460. So when exactly is he going to get one? When he's in the nursing home?
Buy the damn LS460. You want him to die never having had what he always wanted? I don't think so. Don't worry about "maintenance issues 2yrs down the road", these cars are bulletproof, but there are threads here with references to dealers who deeply discount extended Lexus Platinum warranties. Once you buy the LS, just PM me and I'll give you several references.

Theres nothing wrong with the ES. The ES is a lot of car for the money, and it sells better than the IS, GS & LS combined. Without the ES...there wouldn't be a Lexus to make the LS.
I considered a CPO LS before buying the ES's I owned. I looked at 2000s in 2003, and 2006 430s and 2007 460s in 2010. The LS is my favorite car, but I don't like buying used cars, and I lease for business...so the ES made sense. You get probably 75% of the LS for 50% of the cost which is a pretty good deal. When you drive the ES day in and day out and you aren't constantly comparing it to the LS, its a very nice car. Not an LS...but a nice car.

How often do we have a chance to give our parents something they always wanted? Get him the LS, the ES is nice. I have an 07 LS and had a 13/14 ES as a loaner on a shop visit. I think they are close to the same size. Buy the LS and you will have it as long as you want it.
