didn't realize how bright they were until i opened the garage door and turned on the car. i realized my HLs weren't on ( the HL stalk was not in auto mode but the DRL option was selected, i hate when the techs touch **** ) because i'd taken the car to Hennesy to replace the brake actuator... AGAIN. apparently when it was replaced in NY it wasn't replaced with the 600H actuator. sorry, getting off the subject. anyway i realized the HLs weren't on when i went around to the front of the car, but the DRLs were on.

Good pics. It's a surprise how bright they are at night. A while back there were some discussions about 2013's high beam. 2 members noted that when they turned on the high beam, only the outer projectors lit up but the inner ones never did. One was told by the dealership that the inner projector was not part of the head light system. It's an infra-red unit. Another member said that 2013 LS 460 sold in Europe can fire up both inner and outer projectors when high beam is on. Did you notice if your inner projector ever lit up in high beam?

haven't checked if the inner HL is on with the HBs. the lights in the pics are just the DRLs.

There was a thread that talked about this inner lens..I believe it was part of the intelligent high beam sensors and something about jdm vs us specs or something

CJ... I just came out of the garage, tried every conceivable combination and can not get that second set of lights to even flicker. I even called the wife out to adjust the stalk... Nothing. Why in the hell are they there? It would make absolutely no sense for them to be there with no functionality. Time for some research.

 

I believe they are meant for infrared..not to actually project light

yeah, i read all the previous posts on this subject, wish i had found them before starting a new thread. no one knows what they are... alot of speculation but no definitive answers. if it is a sensor... it's a big *** sensor. one post stated that the inner lens comes on when turning (working with the adaptive front lighting)... scratching my head again.
