You are a much better "Gambler" than I.

Actually, the purchaser of these warranties are the gamblers.....The warranty company is the "house". They are betting you won't use the warranty and you are betting you will. Because they are so eager to sell you the warranty, and they are multi-million (billion?) dollar companies, that's a dead giveaway. They know that statistically, the chances are they will win....just like in Vegas....and continue to make money from buyers like yourself.

I've had nearly $8k in repairs and paid exactly $0 out of my pocket. Even if I sourced out parts on my own and paid a mechanic half price at $4k for all those parts and repairs that's still a ton of money saved far beyond my initial investment. A car on this level, I'll always make the small investment to have warranty coverage so I can always smile when I pull up into the service bay

That's a good point - I certainly would dread pulling into a Lexus service bay wondering the cost beyond maintenance. Peace of mind has value

I am at that point myself at 99k miles wondering if I should get a warranty (3rd party is only option for me at a nice $3.3k for additional 36k miles). But as you mentioned, a single mid-level repair would pay for itself, and there are a lot of bells and whistles...

took my car in yesterday evening because I thought I had a rock or something between my rotor and pad...turns out it's the control arms/bushings.

I'm waiting on a quote today....I'm at almost 130K miles and out of warranty so I'm bracing for the price.

Original MSRP was $122k and it is in its 7th year. When you factor parts and labor on the repairs, it adds up fast. These cars are not cheap. There are people on this forum who have had way more expensive repairs than me..lucky for most of them..all covered under a warranty of some sort. Sticker shock for most of us but things can and do happen. On the average, the LS is still superior in reliability compared to its competition

I'm in the same boat as you - however many forum members have found cheaper fixes (i.e. replacing components, not the whole thing...and having some independent shops to do it vs the dealer). Still going to cost you but not $4,452 (I had Lexus quote me $5400, a well-regarded independent quote me $4,400).

Just to add when I came up with my issue, some forum members said it isn't a detrimental repair required (i.e. driving on cracked control arms isn't a safety issue). Now I could be wrong but my mechanic also said something similar...to quote him "driving this another 10,000 miles you should be ok, you may see some uneven wear on tires and hear the noise however"

I just looked on Sewell and the parts are about $200 cheaper for each one with a total of 6 parts...

So that's a little better. I'm going to order them there and just have the dealer install.

If you look a page back I posted that you can now get all of the bushings in poly for just a song. Take it to an independent that is willing to do the work or even a speed shop and you could get your whole front end done for less then a grand. You can even purchase new replacement control arms on EBay and have them done at that price. Control arms replacement is not rocket science, it's relatively easy with the right tool.

Like DevhH said, there are much better and cost efficient alternatives including the parts you purchsae. I would highly recommending exploring those (along with other shops) maybe some other CL members are in your part of GA to recommend other shops?

I'm looking on Sewell for the parts and I'm a bit confused.

there are two parts for each of these part numbers:
48630-59125
48630-53135

ARM ASSEMBLY, FRONT SUSPENSION, UPPER (LH - LEFT / DRIVER SIDE) NO.1
ARM ASSEMBLY, FRONT SUSPENSION, UPPER (LH - LEFT / DRIVER SIDE) NO.2

and

ARM ASSEMBLY SUSPENSION NO.1
ARM ASSEMBLY SUSPENSION NO.2

which is the one I need? anyone know?

Thanks... yeah I have all those numbers....

The confusion is that under the two number I listed above there are two listings for parts that match. I guess they are both the same, it's just a little odd.

parts ordered from Sewell for right at 2K.

Even the dealer tech was amazed I could get that price.
I'll post my results once the repair is done next week.
