Dead starter motor and burned out HID running light.

The first ($1700) will be covered by the extended warranty I purchased.

The second ($540) will not.

I hope this is not a sign of things to come!

I agree but since under warranty just get it done! they are probably charging you 80 to 85 for the bulbs (1 hr) and then the starter and the labor probably eats up the rest of the cost.

The starter and associated labour is covered.

The bulb and associated labour is not. They indicated that the bulb itself is expensive and the proceure to replace it is time consuming. Not true?

First trip to dealer
The bulbs are expensive because of the extremely high mark-up they place on them. They can be purchased other places, and if you cannot do it yourself, take it to a Toyota dealership. They will be cheaper than the Lexus dealership.

Hopefully it is not a sign of things to come, and I'm sure it's not. This is the first I have heard of a dead starter motor.

It's funny because when I first got my car I remember thinking it is impossible to try to start the car while the engine was already running and get that horrible grinding noise.

I've chaged out my lights 3 different times (trying to get the right color and brightness) with zero issues. Ordered my bulbs from Amazon, at my door a few days later. Think I paid $75 for my last set of bulbs that are super bright white and took me all of about 30 minutes to change out in my garage.

Is there a write-up out there that walks through the process?

Hi, just wanted to post that my starter motor was replaced recently, 59K miles, under Lexus extended warranty, would have been $1,400.

The LS is the most reliable model sold in the most reliable brand in the US. I think you will be just fine. These cars are bullet proof

Same problem after replacing the starter!

Turns out there is a Tech Bulletin that calls out replacement of the starter switch.

Done under extended warranty - no further problems.
