Default Confused about LEDs

I have tried to read and re-read the numerous posts re. changing to LEDs but I am not certain that I fully understand all the details. Basically, I would like to have the "white light" LED look during the time when my DRLs are on. As I understand it, on the 460, the DRLs are a reduced power of the HID high beams and this might complicate any swap.

Is it a simple bulb change to go from the stock HID to LED and will I then get the LED look when the DRLs are on? Or is it more complicated than this? If it is a simple swap what bulb is recommended for a 2011 LS 460?

I may be wrong but I think the DRLs are reduced power to the high beams that are halogens not HIDs. The night low beams are the HIDs. I know this doesn't exactly answer your question but is just for clarification.

Drls are a 9005 Halogen bulb operating at reduced wattage. I had dealer turn my drls off through personalized settings..woot

Thanks guys for the clarifications.

However, I like the idea of DRLs making me more visible during the day. (Plus DRLs are mandatory here in BC, Canada). So is there a simple solution that allows me to maintain DRL type lighting but move from Halogen to the "white light" type LED that is a DIY task and does not have a high cost?

Does anybody have anything they can suggest? Or at least tell me there is nothing available now that will do what I would like?

The September issue of Popular Mechanics (pg 142) had a two-page illustrated article on how to do this.
