Default Climate Control Auto-on when starting?

Hi all,

Quick (hopefully silly) question for the experts...When I turn my 2007 LS460L on, the climate control (A/C) no longer comes on automatically. I have to hold down the Auto button, or flip it on and off.

It was doing fine (automatically coming on when the ignition button was pushed and retaining last settings) until this weekend. Did I change something by mistake? When the system comes back on, it reverts to 75 degrees and Dual setting off.

Any suggestions?> Hope I'm just clueless and it's not a big issue.

Thanks

Jack

Nope...no work has been performed since I got the car a few months ago, other than installing the iPod and Nav Override.

The only thing out of the ordinary was that I valet parked the car for a few days while I was at a conference in Orlando. I didn't drive it from Sun afternoon to Thurs, and when I got in the car Thurs the A/C was off. Ever since, no A/C at startup.

Is there any other way to identify/diagnos the a/c filter door clip issue?

if you open up your glove box, take out the tray, and pop open the trap door in the back, you will be able to see the compartment where the air filter goes. start the car and try put the car in CIR mode (on and off), see if you can get the compartment door to open and close? if you see that, then at least that part is not the problem, maybe something is not right when you did the install?

Unfortunately it sounds like when they installed the ipod override, they opened up the air filter door without pushing the air recirculation button first. Unfortunately this is approximately a $2,000 thing to get fixed. I know because I was/am in the same situation.

Hmmm...I checked with the installer and he said they didn't open the glove compartment at all during the install.

Also, the install was done over a month ago...the problem just started happening this past week. Is it likely or possible that there would have been a month delay before signs of this problem started to manifest themselves? Or, if they did open the air filter door without pushing the air circ button, would this have happened/shown up immediately?

Thanks in advance...

Jack

Hi all...still feeling like I'm not understanding the situation...I apologize in advance for being dense on this one.

When I got home from work tonight, I pulled the shelf out of the glove compartment, and removed the plastic cover. I then switched the air circulation button back and forth between inside/outside while watching the air filter area. The white cover still functions and moves up and down when I switch between inside/outside.

Is this the correct behavior of a "working" car? Or am I missing something entirely? I was under the impression that if I (or my installer) had done something wrong, the white cover wouldn't be operating at all.

Can someone please clarify for me? Any other thoughts?

Thanks

Jack

if that door is working, then it should be fine. so that doesn't seem to be the problem

but back to your case, umm.......

Thanks for the confirmation! I thought I was going crazy...(still might be, but that's a different story)...

I guess I'll have to take it in to the dealer to see what they say. I'd still love to hear from others if they have any input. If not, I'll come back and update the forum with what I find.

Thanks all,

Jack

just a long shot, but do you use the same key fob or do you switch between the two?

Also on the auto setting, do you cycle through the settings until the auto is on AND the internal or external air setting?

Do you know that your battery is solid? This car is crazy for power and if even one of your cells is a bit off, it will act peculiar in ways that are hard to explain when it starts and other items work just fine. I had a brand new Lexus battery when they CPOd my car and the bozos didnt put water in it, I had all kinds of strange symptoms until the battery finally failed.

I have the service manual for this, when I have some time Ill look up this symptom and see what it offers for advice, that would be exactly what your dealer will do, although they would also put a probe on it most likely.

Re: the long shot...I use mine, but my wife uses the second one. Are you suggesting I switch fobs to see if it's a sympton of one or the other (or both)? I can certainly give that a whirl.

On the auto setting, I'm not sure what you mean. I usually just like to leave it on re-circulated (no outside air) cause it's colder (live in S. Fla!), but the cycling through the options does work. It goes from inside, auto, outside, auto outside, auto, auto inside (or something like that).

No clue on the battery...just bought the car a few months ago...I will certainly have them check the battery when I take it in.

Thanks in advance for checking the service manual when you get a chance..,much appreciated!

I ran into a very similar issue on my GS with the two fobs. I had one hanging in the hallway within sight of the car and when I got it, it would sometimes get confused and see one further away which had a stronger battery. I remember reading somewhere that the personal settings could be fob independent, and the settings like temp would get weird on me like you describe. My SM told me to move the other fob further away afte they checked it out and it was fine after that.

On the Auto setting there is also a green led to the left and right, outside and inside air. You can have one of the three or Auto and one of the other settings on, they cycle through when you hit the auto switch. In Auto it seems to hold the one I prefer better and then changes to the other as the air gets to the set temp. If you set it to recirc, I found that it always starts on outside air when I start the car. Since I have set it to Auto and always one of the two other settings at the same time, it seems to stay exactly where I want it day in and out.

Have the dealer check the battery, I have seen the strangest symptoms when one cell is off even the slightest amount, the electronics in this car are pretty sensitive compared to others I have owned. Its worth a shot to see if that is adding to your issue, and dont assume if they put in a new one that they put water in it!...how they can CPO a vehicle and not put water in the battery beyond what it ships with is beyond me.. but my dealer did.

Hell JGeorge,
I had a familiar situation where the installer installed my Ipod and pulled the wire thru the AC filter door. The AC Auto light would turn on for approximately 7 seconds and then shut off. I would then have to over ride and click the auto button to get it to work. Since the AC filter door could not close that AC auto switch would shut off. Perhaps when they installed your over-ride unit a portion of the wiring is preventing the AC filter door to shut. You should have it looked at the dealership ASAP, otherwise the AC door filter motor may burn out and then get ready to spend some coin.
