"Self-supporting run-flat tires typically carry a 15% - 27% weight penalty over similar standard tires"

given the idea is to save gas, having more sprung weight isn't a good idea

just went on tirerack to waste some time at work, these are all the avail tires in summer and all season they carry in oem 18" sizing with their weight in pounds after:

Continental ExtremeContact DWS/DW 24
General Exclaim UHP 25
Pirelli PZero Rosso 25
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 25

Listed as OEM tire:
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx A1 27
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx A1 A/S 28
Bridgestone Turanza EL42 28
Bridgestone Turanza ER33 29
Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 28 (runflat version: 31)

if you're going to go through the trouble of removing the spare for weight, might as well take this to heart next time you need new rubber. if you're running one of the OEM tires above, you can save 3-5lbs per tire!

I just saw that they removed the "LEXUS" word on the back of the 2011. Maybe I'll remove mine too TO SAVE FUEL!

Two of my european made cars came with runflats. As soon as I drove them off the lot, I ditched the RF's in favor of regular high performance tires. I just don't like how the Rf's handle.

daryll40: I unloaded 300 horses from my engine and am doing just fine with the remaining 80.

I read on Lexus' website (on the specs & pricing page to be specific) that a fully functioning Lex pony weighs about 100 lbs. I now fill up when I do the oil change.

Removing the spare tire will triggered master warning light after about 10mi. of driving. Once the car are in park position, the light will go away.
