Default Removing Spare to Save Gas

How much gas would I save if I remove the spare tire? I only drive locally anyway and it's been years and years since I had a flat requiring the spare.

marginally saving any at all....

car is over 4000lb. spare is what, 50lb? even your body is like 3 times the weight of spare. don't even bother.

how many times do you drive with anyone over 100lbs...thats like adding two more spare tires..sure, that makes no sense what i just wrote but taking the spare out is not a smooth move and doesn't make sense to me either..you arent racing civics at the track..keep the spare because odds are, you remove it, you'll need it soon after..not worth it. I'm sure the body weight ratio factors in the spare tire for overall performance in handling too when the car was designed

Driving habit is a better way to save gas versus shave off unused weight. Agree with other that spare tire won't help much and you never know when flat tire happen.

The cost of not having a spare tire available when you have a flat tire exceeds the benefit of marginally saving gas, if any, by removing the spare.

Try another trick: make sure the rpm doesn't go higher than 2000. I do that and a full tank gives me 320 - 360 city miles (95 octane gas, 5W30 fully synthetic oil. If I had 5W20, I would get even more miles out of my tank).

Ive been doing that and it DOES save gas. What about only running half a tank at a time?

Other weight saving tips are to remove all the doors (they are incredibly heavy), the hood and the trunk lid. Also, remove any unused seats as they are also heavy.

However you should replace the doors and trunk lid when there's a chance of rain.

remove the carpet, roof lining, and most of the dash as well. all the insulation adds a lot of weight. wiring has also become big part of the overall weight, remove all unnecessary electronics

sell your LS and get a Toyota Prius, over inflate your tires and always drive behind a semitrailer.

If someone weighed 250lb and lost 50lb, that would be equivalent of removing that spare tire

no offense to anyone

Make sure not to save any change in your pockets, pull the fillings out of your teeth and trim your toe nails!

Not worth removing the spare to save gas. If you really wanted, you should look in to getting a donut as a spare. Best of both worlds.

Nope, won't work. I've carried jelly, chocolate frosted and Boston creme in the trunk, but I ended up eating them long before I got a flat.
