I have a 2010 and I'm looking for the gen 6 v10.1 upgrade. Seeing as how it's just a USB install, I'm looking to do it myself. Anyone know where I can get the update? Downloadable?

The reason NAV Map Updates are no longer on DVD's is to prevent you from doing the update yourself. The updated data in on a USB drive (even if you buy it on ebay), and must be installed by a Lexus dealer.
The USB is connected to a Lexus Laptop and the proprietary software installs the updated map data from the drive. The dealership must purchase a one-time-only software encryption key from Lexus Corporate to enable the update from their laptop.
One more way the dealership can eliminate DIY and genereate more service revenue.
You'd think the competition from portable GPS, smart phones etc. would drive dealership prices for updates down a bit, but it doesn't appear to be happening.
i wouldn't pay 2 cents for the nav upgrade unless it included 3d maps, panoramic views, buildings, remember best route, etc. Just to get a few additional streets/poi is ridicules.
i've said this before, but i'll say it again - navigon on my iphone is 10 times better than the nav in my car and lexus just doesnt get it.
There is a TSIB: SB0067-09R1 DEC 09 Navigation System - Firmware Improvement
I don't know what it does, but I am requesting it to be done next week while they are working on the valve spring. I hope it also improve the way it handle music play back also.
Have you noticed any improvement after the firmware update?

The dealer won't upgrade any thing in the navigation system unless I pay them for the navigation 10.1 upgrade for $350. This included the CDDB database and I guess the navigation firmware if it actually exist.

I asked my dealer about this specific TSIB and was told it is just a procedural change to the regular navi update. i.e., nothing new as far as firmware goes.
I asked about the CDDB update and referenced the TSB that specifies the update that should be done each quarter while I had my car in for the dash clip and seat cushion TSBs. I was told that they were having real problems with frying the hard drives and ruining the entire computer in the car and Lexus did not have a fix for them yet. As a result, they were not going to do any updates to the car right now.
I called Lexus directly to ask them what was up with the updates and they said that they would call me back. No call yet... Anyone else heard of this?
