Default Windshield, um, things

My 07 LS460L was a CPO in great condition. However, I notice when I have the right angle of light hitting the windshield, I see tons of tiny little imperfections. They are very difficult to describe, but appear to be micro-chips or have the appearance of almost like a salt crystal embedded in the widshield. When I say tons, I mean these are all over the place. I've never seen anything like this and have no idea of the cause or if it can be fixed. It's driving me nuts.

On a side note, the front end paint is nearly immaculate, so I don't believe this is some kind of micro-chips from tiny, tiny pebbles. According the the Lexus history, this car was owned in Newport Beach, CA, so I'm wondering if the ocean salt somehow caused a degradation of a coating on the windshield?

Anyone have any experience with this and perchance have a fix?

Thanks

I think your referring to just the simple pitting from bugs and road debris. I have them on my window as well and also my 01 LS. Its nothing that is not normal.

dealers will fix (repaint) chips on CPO cars. that's why you see perfect front end.

Fix is to replace. If it bugs you enough. They arent necessarily caused by stones though. It mainly has to due with age and highway driving I would guess.

I'll try to get a picture tomorrow. Although I suspected the front end was repainted, I still do not think this is a chipping problem, as I've been down that road before with my own cars and this looks very different. They're just too many and too small.

I'll see if Ii can capture it and post it here.

Is it possible the car went through a sandstorm at some point?

That could explain why the front end might need re-painting...

On my windshield I would guess there are hundreds of these small specs that do show in the right light.

Your windshield is pitted from hwy driving, bugs, dirt debris etc. which is normal and YMWV between vehicles. If the front end was re-painted (b/c it was peppered) with a pitted windshield sounds like a hwy car, when the sun hits it or the right light you can see them if they are not plentiful like on older cars. It is hard to get a photo of them but you can have them filled in with polish, contact you ins company they have people who will come out and re-fresh the windshield and repair chips for free (depending on your policy) or for a small fee.

I had the same issue on my 07 cpo 460l. It came with hundreds of little nicks that were very annoying. Dealer sent me a check for $700 as a goodwill gesture AND I was able to get my insurance to replace it with no deductible. I believe the windshield costs around $1200.

There is no fix for this problem other than to replace.

I recommend you talk to your dealer to see what they can do and then contact your insurance co.... Most of them are very quick and easy when it comes to this kind of claim. Insist on lexus glass with the lexus stamp. Insurance rate has not gone up for me after the claim.. In fact they went down a bit at renewal (progressive).

Don't let this annoy you one more day... Get it replaced...Afterwards it feels great to look through a crystal clear windshield!

Good luck!
