Thanks JFNash.

That reminds me of my Tom Tom handheld unit. If you choose one of their pre-recorded voices (like Mr. T or some other celebrity), you don't get street names. If you choose a computer voice, you do.

I guess few other people are experiencing this issue. Or care about it. I'm comparing the turn by turn experience to the several handheld GPS units I have. They ALL give me turn by turn voice, even in my small town in NC. Shoot, all of them--including Lexus--are using the same maps.

So I know it's not a map issue. It's a Lexus programming issue. It really bugs me.

It is supplied that way. Perhaps the LS will have to wait for a new generation - although, if customers are vocal enough, I'm sure they'll respond sooner.

I spent some time today talking to dealership and to Lexus Cust. Serv. All of it unsatisfying.

I guess there's nothing I can do.

My LS460 is not planned until the 2011 year but, from the Lexus web site the navigation user's manual clearly indicates the street names are pronounced. I did have the use of an RX (2010) and it's nav also pronounced street names.

I guess Gen 6 is better, but I'm really not happy about this. The map shows me the street names. Around my little town in NC, it will sometimes tell me "turn by turn guidance cannot be provided", which is crazy--it has a correct map. Other GPS systems do. It doesn't even give me "turn right" without street names...it says nothing. And shows me nothing. That's crazy.

I am thinking to upgrade my 2007(2006 map) to 10.1 when it come out next month. The dealer wants $350, I think that's reasonable since no where else I can get it done. Do anyone know there is a firmware upgrade? like Garmin or Tomtom that would give you street name announcement also?

Does anyone know if the new 10.1 upgrade will pronounce the names or not. My dealer says that if the old one (2007) doesn't pronounce the street turn names the new one will not either. Is this true?
