So I jumped on the Rotora post from last week where they wanted to do a photoshoot and install on a LS460 for their 12 Piston BBK. Here are some preliminary pictures. The car needs a little tweaking in the computers so once Lexus does its thing I should have it back tomorrow. Looks awesome though.

well, to elaborate more, here's what i think. i have never owned any rotora stuff, and personally i don't think i ever will. i have heard enough stories about them (from issues to business). their brakes work, no doubt, they supply brakes to a lot of oem. but on bbk, personally i think they are more for show than about the real deal like brembo, ap racing, etc...

i mean, 12 pistons? for real? personally i think it's silly. it's almost like having them just for the heck of it. having 8 pot is already a big deal for a lot of cars in supercar level.

that's why i wanted to say for show they are not bad choices.

They look cool, but I am not a fan of the Rotora products.

Do 12 tiny pistons perform better than 6 (or 4) larger ones? Will be interesting to see. There is a reason Brembo does not offer 12-piston kits....

No reason to apologize. Thanks for your input. Hmmm now you have me thinking. I was originally looking at the Brembo BBK but then this came along and I was like hmmm well might as well.

I will get the exact specs of everything and post them later on when I get the car.

 

Thanks for the compliments. I will report what the changes in stopping power is. I know that after my wheels were put on the car that I was putting a big strain in stopping with the heavy Asanti's.

Unfortunately when we put the brakes on the ABS went nuts on all these warning lights came on the dash so once Lexus fixes it all I should have it back here in a couple hours.

 

huh?! rotora didn't even know how to install these brakes correctly without triggering the error codes?? wow, that's something. i am sorry for the negatives, but even i know how it should be done so you don't have to spend the trip to dealership. i bet they simply just jack up the car and start installing / bleeding the brakes @_@

yes, with 22s, stopping distance definitely increases (heavy wheels). when i put on my brembo, it fixed everything, the brembo stopped pretty insane. and i think stopping power is actually secondary (most bbk doesn't help you to stop faster), brake fade is the key. bbk usually won't have brake fade over long driving time. stop brakes, not so much

i have had bbk on most cars i have owned (ap racing, stoptech, brembo, project u), i can see the goods and bads in all of them. i also talk to a lot of their product specialists about details and their philosophy / designs. combining those with rotora, that's when i saw the "mismatch"

 

Well I got the car back this afternoon. I must say the stopping power is incredible. Albeit this is my first BBK on any of my cars and I dont have anything else to compare it to besides stock.

The brake pedal feels like I have the stock wheels and stock brakes on which isnt what I was expecting. For those of your OC people I was on the 55 and got off the Katella exit at about 65 and the car came to a complete stop with no jerking or anything very quickly.

So far no complaints. Ill take some close up pics here in a little bit and post them later.
