Default Michelin Tires For LS Question

A while back someone posted that the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus was a good tire for my 2009 LS (SWB, AWD). I am about ready to order that tire and just wanna be sure that I order the right thing.

I am looking at a 235/50-18 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus Blackwall 97Y. Is this right???

That size is correct, however the model you show is a directional tire, so you will only be able to use them on one side of the car and not cross-rotate. If you wish to do so, and still buy Michelin, then you may want to select another one.

Tirerack Michelin 235/50-18

I didn't realize that anyone was rotating side to side. I haven't done that in at least 30 years (since I went to radial tires).

I recently purchased the Michelin PS2 A/S Plus tires for my 2008 LS460. Have put about 1000 miles on them and like the handling much better than the original Bridgestones. The ride is a little harder than the Bridgestones, but neither my wife or I find the ride hard or annoying.

The nice thing about these tires is the 45,000 mile wear warranty. I have not rotated tires side to side for years either, so I do not mind the directional tires.

My other car is a C5 Corvette and those tires cannot be rotated at all - they are also directional and the fronts and backs are different sizes.

Any idea how they'll do in the snow?

I don't mean to hijack your thread daryll40, but it may be appropriate to ask what is the difference between the directional and radial tires?

My dealer says not to cross rotate tires. That came from the service manager at Lexus of St. Louis...

They're fine in slush and light snow .. they're not a substitute for real dedicated snows if your area/road conditions dictate, especially for a RWD LS460 .. I see you're in PA ..might not be the best choice for anywhere but the Philly area ...

I still cross-rotate, and going from side-to-side prevents step-wear.

However, this can't be done with unidirectional tires.

Here are Tirerack's recommendations:

I just ordered the tires from TIRE RACK. I may not install them right away, but will report back at some point.

I just got the same setup yesterday. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus work well with the car. Dove 100 miles on them and they are sooo much better than the bridgestones i had on there! These tires ride quite smooth! Will not change from this brand when again its time to do new ones again.

Frankly I was/am suspicious of the tires (even though I DID order them) as them seem relatively cheap for high end Michelins. I paid $764 plus shipping from Tire Rack (plus, of course, will incur the local cost of mounting and balancing). Seems low for 4 Michelins. ??

The cost of your tires (made in France) at the local exclusive Michelins dealer here is about $900 (mounting & balancing included).

Mine, on the other hand, cost about $1,400 (everything included). I have 255/45/19 though.

Your price ($900 installed) pretty much agrees with mine. Thanks for the comparison.
