Default Introduction

Hi All,

I just wanted to introduce myself here.

I just bought a 2007 LS460L CPO. Silver/Black with nearly all the factory bells & whistles. I am coming back to Lexus. Previously had a LS400, then went to 740iL, now back to Lexus.

I live in Los Angeles and bought the car in San Francisco Saturday evening. Drove it back on Sunday. I have been searching this forum for the last couple of weeks as I was doing research. I appreciate the information already received, and I look forward to interacting more directly in the future, both receiving advise and hopefully being able to answer others questions as well.

Regards,
Vector

Any comments on your moving away from the 740iL?

Thanks for the welcome!

Regarding the comparison to the 2000 740iL, I can provide my initial thoughts based on 2 days of LS460L and 500 miles.
  1. BMW feels glued to the road and supports a more aggressive driving style
  2. Brake feel on BMW is better. I felt the pulsing described by others on the LS460. I have an appointment at dealer later this week. I am hoping it is something that can be easily corrected.
  3. LS460L is WAY quieter - It was a joy to have a conversation with my wife as though we were sitting in the living room - Same for phone conversation - no more feeliing like I have to yell.
  4. HVAC - Love the Lexus - The BMW always blows - it does not vary its speed very well.
  5. Radar Cruise Control is awesome. Made the trip from SF to LA via coast a real pleasure. Wish they would have made it work all the way to a full stop - would have been great for LA traffic!

    Regards,
    Vector

Interesting thread. I have pretty much the same car as you had (01 740i Sport). Thinking of changing over to a silver/blk Lexus too, but the SWB version. I appreciate your comments and can't make up my mind yet. No rush, I guess. There's not going anywhere, but down in price. My current rides have probably hit the bottom of their depreciation curve anyway.

Any pics of the new machine (LS460L) and the old machine (740il)? What color combo was your 7? Were you only looking for the silver/blk combo LS 460L, or were you open to other possibilities? And did you buy from a dealer or private individual and how was the buying experience?

Congrats!

Stever,
My 740 was silver/silver. I was not stuck on silver, would have also bought the dark red, or green. Did not want black as I live in socal.

I bought it from a Lexus dealer. It is a Certified Pre-Owned with 20k miles on it. Experience was OK. I was surprised that the brakes surge, there is a rattle in the front suspension, and there were scratches in the windshield. Not sure how much time the dealer spent inspecting the car. I am taking it in to local dealer to get the brakes fixed and the rattle. The local dealer said Monday that there is a 30 day grace period on non-warranty items (brakes). The dealer I bought it from gave me a discount for the glass. I flew up to buy the car and drive it home, so could not wait for them to replace it. Will see how it goes at the local dealer.

I guess the lesson learned for me is that there are differences in thoroughness between dealers. Bottom line is a got a good deal, just expected a no problem car buying a low mileage CPO.

Regards,
Vector

That sounds really great. All preowned cars will have some issues but yours can be easily sorted I'm sure. Can't wait to see pics, if you're willing to post them.
