Headlight and AFS Question....
So I after I bought my car I realized there was an issue with the AFS. Whenever I would make a left hand turn the alarm would come on saying to take the car to the dealer. So today I finally took my car into the dealership to have the wind noise and glove compartment fixed along with the AFS looked at.
Wind noise: They replaced the driver side window...it helped but there is still wind noise.... anybody have any suggestions on what to do next?
Glove compartment: they replaced it..works like a charm.
Now the AFS....well it looks like whoever had the car before me was involved in a minor front end incident on the driver side. The dealer wants to charge 276.00 to diagnose the problem. They said they ran a test on the AFS and they heard some noise coming from the motor. So the dealer explained that they might have to replace the entire headlamp assembly which runs pretty expensive.
My question is...is the AFS motor part of the headlamp itself or is this a separate part? The reason I ask is because there are a couple of headlamps with AFS on ebay for $500.00 which is a lot better than the 1500 the dealer is quoting.
Just want to see what my options are. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys.

The leveling motor is sold independent of the headlight assembly. Full dealer list on the headlight is a bit over $600. The leveling motor is $165 (list.) You can get the headlight for around $500 and the motor around $120, if you shop around.
As for the wind noise - there are numerous topics about that. I was worried when you said you were proceeding with the sale in spite of the wind noise as I don't believe that many have had 100% success getting rid of it entirely. It's also an either you have it or you don't type of thing. Fortunately, I don't have it. (But it did have some body work on the rear I didn't know about!) There are different things you can try - sealing the window triangle, etc. Check the stickied topic.
Good luck. I'm sure you'll get everything worked out.

Thanks Ace for the response. 700 for the parts isnt too bad and I'd be willing to spend that plus obviously the labor but I cant see why the dealer would charge 800 for labor and wondering where the 1500 price came from. I think I will just take it in back next week and pay the 276 to have them give me a definitive answer on the repair costs.
As far as the wind noise goes I did read the sticky. When I take it back in next week I'll let them know that its still there. I'm probably just stuck with it...ho hum!
On a side note..I sold my GS400 last night. It was a sad site seeing her drive away. She treated me so well.
