Default Lamisafe glass installation

Team -

I've performed the JMcraney fix and am pondering the Lamisafe TSB as well. There's nothing like factory work so I'm hesitant... Have any of you had an imperfect install the first go round or have you been satisfied with the dealer work?

Thanks!

I had the front Lamisafe conversion done on my 460. The work takes longer than they claim it will. It is supposed to dampen exterior noises, but the difference is hardly noticeable, if at all. Besides, they don't change the rear window. I think "soundproof" glass really targets noises produced by traffic surrounding you; that's why it's redundant to do the fronts only. But the addition of sealing may suppress some wind noises, although that probably depends on the quality of the install. The windows also seat better in the door frame, imho. And... Lamisafe is also more burglar proof.

My experience with the Lamisafe retrofit was similar to Burnaby's, no noticeable improvement. There are numerous reports in LS forums on this site and other sites that the glass replacement didn't help. I have seen one report that there was an improvement after the change and one report that the noise was worse after the change. There very few reports of any downside other than the inconvenience.

I have always had serious doubts that Lexus would implement this major effort, the glass change, without some solid engineering data that it is effective in reducing noise. One of the problems with multiple noise sources is that when you reduce or eliminate one of them it is difficult to distinguish any improvement.

ls460love has told us that he has done the triangle repair without much improvement. If he decides to go ahead with the TSIB that replaces the glass it will be interesting to know about his perception of the problem after doing the DIY fix first.

If you look at the TSIB that does the glass retrofit you will see that there is some possibility that the triangle trim seal may be compromised in that effort. http://www.lambros.net/LexusTechInfo...L-NV009-07.pdf

After reviewing the TSB, I've decided to avoid the modification. Not for the triangle impact, but simply do to how invasive the operation is.

I'm sorry ls460love, not mocking you in any way so please take no offense, but that struck me as so funny. I mean its not a heart transplant!

(BTW, its so funny because I think the same way as you)

Hey, the way it's going, it won't be long before we use MRIs to diagnose problems on cars...

Well I know this has been discussed forever, but I recently found out that as long as the fix doesn't exceed a certain sound decibal its deemed fixed. I think thats ridiculous that they would replace the glass with this wind noise kit and it still sounds the same.

I hear you Nospinzone. If you read the TSB, there's much opportunity for human error...

Yes, I did read it, plus some posts here detailing the operation. Even though I didn't have a wind noise problem, I considered getting the laminate glass just because it was an upgrade. However, I considered the risk that they screw up something else too great. Plus, it didn't include the rear windows.
