As a personal project I have been recording high mileage claims that owners have made over the years on this board for the LS 460 and so far I have seventeen. The highest is 32.22 MPG, lowest is 24.00 and the average is 28.29.

My personal best for my AWD has never gotten over 22 but I live in a mountainous area. Your mileage may vary

actually no bs at all..

cruise was set about 10 over the posted limit an i rarely took my foot of the gas.. an at 88mph it was only running about 2200 rpm.. as far as tail wind i have no idea.. a lil random drizzle.. but its a gradual uphill climb. its not difficult as long as u can maintain constant speed.. i drive at night.to avoid traffic. left orlando 6pm, stopped a ways after south of the border (north/south carolina border) for a fill up..arrived in south jersey(cherry hill) @ 730ish am.. picked up my mom the continued up to nyc.. had 126m range left when i left her house...

so some intrepid reporter can chk the weather here last thursday.. bcuz i left thurs.. came back monday.. fresh in my memory & no exaggerations either... if u dont believe.. get your gas can an go for a ride on the highway... an see how far u get..

i have to goto charlotte in sept.. gonna see if 1 tank makes it....may even video it for the true-believers...

only thing i did before leaving was to match up my tire pressure.. nyc roads suck.. so i increase my normal 38-40 up to 46.. but i cant see it making a big diff.. i locally (inside fl) average high 400's to low 500's a tank.. no engine mods.. my only trick (if u call it that) is i try never to touch the brake on the highway.. its wasteful, also no major increases or decreases...

someone in the other threads says he's a top gear fan.. they did a test w an M3 vs a Prius on mileage an they proved its "how" u drive ur car not what car u have that makes the diff....

but its easy once u hit 80.. bcuz u get the same sensation changing lanes.. plus between me.. my K40 & Blinder M27 i spend most of my energy avoiding l.e.o.'s... (legalized extortion officers)

Personally i wouldn't Use that for my LS..
If it requires Premium(91) that's what i will Use

Assuming an average driver who puts 18,000 miles per year on the car and an average city/highway mpg of 17, that would mean the consumption of 1,059 gallons of gas/year. Assuming a difference of $0.40/gallon between regular and premium that would mean a savings of $424/year in gas. If the manufacturer of a $75K+ car recommends premium, it would seen that a savings of $424/year would not be worth it particularly if your're planning on keeping the car for awhile. I wouldn't think it would be an affordability issue if you can afford the car in the first place.

Just my $0.02.

so why does the 4.6l tundra say regular gas not premium.. isn't it basically the same engine? bcuz all lexus (to my knowledge) claim they require premium, where the toyota line differs vehicle to vehicle??? gm does the same thing tahoe takes reg but escalade takes premium.. what bcuz i can afford a high end vehicle i'm required to pony up extra at the pump too.... new meaning to "gets u comin an goin!!!!"

Definitely possible. I know because I've done it myself. Well almost. I've gotten 558 miles on a tank, but I was driving up and down some good size hills. Unfortunately the gas you save coasting down a hill doesn't make up for the gas you use to get up the hill.

When I stopped for gas I took just over 20 gallons, so I still should have had almost 2 gallons left in the tank, good for another 50 miles or so. The only thing is my speed was 72 to 75 mph. I don't know if I would have done as well at 88 mph. Also, I keep my tires inflated on the high end.

its not the speed.... its the rpm..increase an decrease that burns the fuel faster.. chk it out 88mph is 2200-2300rpm.... not 4500 or sum such...

I have been able to get in the upper 20's to low 30's mpg by driving in the mid 70's and using cruise as much as possible. My overall is 25.9 right now over the last 6 months with mostly highway miles. I also use the 0-20 synthetic Lexus oil and the tires are at 35 psi cold.

I do use premium gas, but my wife did accidentally put in a tank of regular and I didn't notice any difference. I have thought about using regular, but I figure it is not worth the possible harm if I want to keep the car a long time and I do.
