In Texas heat I’ve found the 1UR HATES regular when switching from premium tank to tank. Now, if you run several tanks in a row as such and never get on it then it’ll be fine (and you’ll not notice a difference.)
Here are the facts:
1) Lexus LS460 Compression ratio is 11.8:1
2) Generally speaking 9.3:1 is the range where the engine SHOULD start running higher than 87 octane fuel.
The computer likely does okay at adjusting for the lower octane, but I'm not sure it's worth the risk.
question: I always use premium gasoline and have been going to Costco, but it’s quite a drive and out of the way. There are random mom & pop gasoline stations out here. Are they safe for the car if I use premium also (91)? There’s a few a block away from the house.
ive heard of people saying to stick with top tier fuel in general, but just curious if there are those in this forum who have been filling up as random gas stations with 91 premium... I’m at 103k miles right now. Do I have to worry about fuel injectors etc if I go to random gasoline stations?
Top tier cleared up a long term rough idle issue that the former owner tried several times to fix. Sold me the car. Two tanks of top tier fixed it. Need I say more. Top tier I think is a also union 76

yeah. ARCO, Costco, Chevron, shell, 76 are all top tier.
there’s a random mom and pop gas station down the street from me for $3.59 premium 91 which I’m tempted to use because it’s just so close vs 15 min drive.
I pay out the nose for top tier premium gas, specifically Shell 93. I don’t drive my car very much or very often so I’m going to make sure the best gas possible is in the tank.

I've been using Costco for two years with a tank of Shell every once in awhile. Always good results. Just filled up for 2.67 at Costco today. (North Carolina)
(Always Premium 93)

That’s wonderful. Congratulations on your reasonable gas prices. Here I spent literally 70 dollars filling up my hooptie.
There is a pump near me with 98/105/110/112 octane that the track guys and myself use from time to time.....I sometimes question the quality of the underground tanks and who actually makes the fuel but it's pure gas and that 98 stuff is great for small engines and 2 strokes and just letting sit in general.
Any majorly used station will have good tanks and fresh fuel so as long as it's 91 or up you will be fine.

good to know! Yeah I’m in SoCal. I just filled up at Costco and it was $3.59 a gallon blah!
