So I have setup an apt. to have my 5,000 service. I ask them how much it's going to be and they tell me $165. I honestly couldn't believe how expensive it was going to be. My question is, why on earth is it that expensive and what do they do?
Hmmm, that's odd. My dealer said the 5k service was complimentary. After that, I pay.
I recently took my car in for the 10k service and it ran about what your dealer is quoting for the 5k service. So, I guess I don't think that sounds high.
I'll tell you this, me personally, I would not have my car serviced anywhere but my dealer. I've seen and heard of too many horror stories when taking your car for service elsewhere. You may pay a little more, but to ME it is well worth the peace of mind.
If you mean the first 5,000 miles service I believe it is always complimentary. If it is a 10K or later service the charge sounds about right since I believe it includes both an oil change and tire rotation. I usually either rotate my tires myself or have the tire store do it for free and just get an oil change while I wait for $50-$60.
And I agree - always have your Lexus serviced by a Lexus dealer. They are just too expensive and to high-tech to have the service done anywhere else.

Yup....same thing down here in Charleston, the 5K is a freebie. And I agree with the others that is about the normal cost for one of the minor checks. I was wondering where you had disappeared to....been a good week for the Gamecocks this week.....no players arrested....however....the weekend is coming up, still plenty of time.

You still enjoying your car?
LOL yes I enjoy my car a lot. I just looked on the net to see when and where Klempson is playing and didn't see anything. Can you help me find what regional they are in?
Well....after 21 straight years of playing in the tourney, we figured we should let another team play this year. After our football team went bowling, then our basketball team went to the Dance (albeit a very short dance), 2 out of 3 is better than the Gamecocks and 1 out of 3 (no bowl and no big dance). Gotta be a disappointing year thus far for the Gamecocks though...the baseball team is loaded. I saw them play College of Charleston this year, and Gamecocks have some talented players for sure. Their players made CofC players look like little kids....
I know that $165 per service sounds high but at least you always know what you are getting. I agree with the above, always take your car to the dealer. Almost every independent garage will end up costing you more in the long run when they replace things that don't need to be replaced. Also, you are getting higher grade parts.
My local dealer (where I bought my car) just sent out a flyer with their service prices. All starting at $179.95 for the 5K service, $359 for the 15K and $539 for the 30K. They will knock off $30 for the $359 and $50 for the $539 if you don't need a loaner car. Also they have a discount coupon that $5 off the Oil and Filter change and a free A/C inspection. They are also advertising an Ipod Integration Module for $499 and a Blue Tooth Integration Module for $499 or both for $899 with a free loaner. Finally, they recommend changing the Cabin Filter for $89.95 twice a year. Any experience with that?
