Hi everyone. I'm just about to buy a 2007 or 2008 LS460. The reason I"m thinking about the 2007 is that I do not need the Mark Levinson / Automatic Parking / On-Star.
The dealer said these are pretty much standard on 2008 models but options on the 2007. So I'm thinking I should get the 2007 at a discount for the options + since the 2008's are out it may be even cheaper. They also said there were no major differences btwn 2007/8.
The prices I'm getting for the specifics are below. What do you think? Thanks in advance!
I'd go for the 2008, although there is not much difference. The ML usually gets bundled with Nav, and it will help with desirability, and resale value. You will also recover the extra cost. Any other options are debatable.

2007 : ~ 58-60k
2008: ~ 60-62k
If you are going to keep the car for 10+ years or lease it then go for the 07. If not then go for the 08 since the price difference in the cars is usually 5,000 per year. When you go to sell the car in 3-5 years you will get about $5k less for the 07. So if I go to the middle of both price ranges $61K - $59K = $3K. So it will actually be $2k better to buy the 08. Just my thoughts!
Welcome to CL, gujjuman. Good luck with your purchase.
You might consider checking the VINs of the 2007s offered to see where it is about in the production process, as some slight technical modifications and quality improvements were made in the middle of the 2007 producton cycle.
I was also in a similar position and got $8000 off my '07 versus just $2000 offered on an '08. Granted this was 5 weeks ago and the '08's were still brand new. My car stickered at just over $67,000 with NAV but NO ML. And there are plenty of 2008 cars with the same options...so the dealer was lying when he said that "NAV and ML are pretty much standard on the '08". It's just how that dealer orders them.
Unless you can get a honest $5,000 to $6,000 better deal on the '07 versus the '08, you're better off with the '08. I told my dealer that I'd wait until they could get me an '08 the way I wanted it and that's when they capitulated on the price of the '07 that they needed to move. So I bit.
I would strongly suggest you get the 08 and make sure you have the laminated front double glass rather than the temperlite single pane. It helps with the wind noise. I would hold out for the 08's to begin a discount and they should. Great car but enough with holding MSRP as a sales price in this economy. The car is made in large numbers and should start to sell at a discount more like others soon if not already. Good luck. PS, if you are leasing forget the 07. Residual will make it impossible. The 08 already has residual that is nothing to crow about.
