NAVI Update 7.1 (dealership equipment and expense)
So I went to the local dealer today to have my nav upgraded so that the I agree screen turns off automatically and was surprised to find out my dealer knew nothing about this, whether it would work or what was involved. After doing some research they called me back and said I would have to buy the upgrade which includes some sort of USB interface to the tune of $500 + another $50-$100 to install the upgrade. I was a little surprised by this, can anyone who has had the upgrade comment on whether this was the case for them - Thanks

Hmm, sounds like you are better off trying some other dealership.
In this thread, an owner was quoted $300 for the 7.1 from McGrath Lexus:

While on page 2 it was about $455 from Longo Lexus in CA.

Yep Donnie @ McGrath in service gave me that quote, I thought that was high....I guess I shouldn't feel bad now. He is still waiting for his service department to get the disk/parts in. They also gave me a cheaper price on the card key from what I have seen posted around here.

Kearny Mesa Lexus said that they don't have the nav upgrade equipment yet but they should be receiving it next month. For LS 460 it is a little more difficult than just popping in a new DVD.

I was talking to the Service Master Tech at the dealership yesterday and he said he still doesn't have 7.1. He is still waiting for an answer from Lexus. Which parts of the country already have this update?

I live in Missouri and had it done last Weds. I'm sure it's available everywhere. They just have to order the parts... There is a bulletin out from Lexus telling them what to do.

The dealership does have to buy a part (it is a tool for their repeated use) in order to do the updates. This includes not only the program and map data updates but also the Grace Notes Update. All should come under warranty except for the Map updates which usually are about $200+. I might note that Cadillac now gives the updates away free for the first 3 years.

That's the database which recognizes CD album, song/title/track information and displays it when you load discs that are recognized by Gracenote. But naturally since new CDs etc. are produced all the time the Gracenote database needs to be updated periodically to stay up to date.
