I test drove an O8 with 7.1 NAV software. It never asked to agree to anything. It flashed a disclaimer (ala MercedesBenz) and then went right to a display of the map. The sales guy in the car with me was speechless and made me turn the car on twice.

I am told 7.1 should be available to us in October. I did not have a chance to test other screen functionality. Was focused on wind noise differences.

Yes, for those who are looking towards a future LS 460 buy, the new '08 IS models are confirmed to no longer have the "I Agree" button, instead it goes away after 5 seconds...the '08 LS 460 likely has the same thing. Thanks Lexus for listening to your customers!

Correct. That's the first thing my wife noticed in our new MY08 460. There is no need to press "I agree" to initiate the navigation feature. It's automatic now and a great convenience.

My LS600hL is an '08 and I still have the "I agree" screen.

Just to note, the first iteration of each model, LS/LSh, is a different year. The LS 460/460 L previewed in Jan 2006 as a 2007 model, while the LS 600h L previewed in mid 2006 as a 2008 model.

Probably with regards to the navigation system, the current 2008 LS 600h L systems are the same spec (nav 7.0?) as the 2007 LS 460/460 L. So they still have the "I agree" button on the start screen. Maybe a system software upgrade?

I wonder if by the time my car gets here (you know, 2099) I'll have v7.1. If not, I wonder if I can talk the dealer into installing it.

Is it done by DVD or into the hard drive via firewire now?

HDD firewire, no more DVDs for US version IIRC.

Default Dare I ask....?

Will 7.1 eliminate the motion lockouts, thereby making an obviously very expensive and intricate Navigation system...uh...actually usable? The phone? Listing of CD/DVD tracks? Anyone know?

And for the VAIS folks...uh...er...does your product do any of the above, or just eliminate the idiot screen upon ignition?

Inquiring minds would love to know. My car's in the shop (high pictched whining sound at freeway speed...they "say" it's "windshield moulding"...(yeah, right). I told the tech riding with me to replicate the noise that if he or anyone he knew in the garage could eliminate the motion lockout there was a $1,000 reward in it for him.

Same goes here. First person to post a non-invasive thoroughly usable elimination of the Navi/Phone/Audio system lockouts on the 2007 LS460, gets a $1,000. I mean a software hack or easily installable module that doesn't involve a corruption of the interior of the car and undetectable per warranty.

Kind of like the X prize, on a smaller scale.

I'm pretty sure 7.1 does not eliminate the motion lockout, merely it removes the "I Agree" button, along with possible other revisions. If Lexus eliminated the lockout, there would be a commotion on this board.

So is the update to 7.1 an automatic event, or must I request it?

If I request it, is there any reason they'd decline to do it?

LexusLean, I have a VAIS SL2i installed in my LS460 for iPod connectivity. The only difference it makes to the non-iPod features is that the "I agree" button is automatically selected after the warning screen displays for five seconds. It doesn't modify any of the restrictions that Lexus feels necessary to impose when the car is moving.

It's a small thing, but the car does sense when there is a front seat passenger in order to enable the front passenger safety features, so it seems like it should be a short step to enabling full use of the navigation, phone, and audio features when the front passenger seat is occupied. It's particularly annoying that a passenger can't scroll through the hundreds of albums on the iPod to select an album quickly.
