Ahh yes I see what you are saying. Yes you can get a Cal temp reg that will buy yout time to cross the country legally.

One key factor is that CA will not permit you take delivery of the car in CA without paying the CA sales tax. Come hell or high water if you buy and drive that car in Cal, you're paying their tax. If the MA sales tax rate is close to the 8.25% CA charges and the two states reciprocate (which they probably do since PA did), then it's no big deal. But if your tax rate is lower by a couple points, it can be $1500 +/-.
