Default LS460 list 69K buy for 66K

My dealer emailed me stating they would sell me the new LS SWB $3500 off sticker. However, after seeing a few of the new LS on the road I now find myself confused. Is it me or do some of you agree the new LS looks like the ES from the front and sides? I hate to say it but the 750i is looking better to me every day. I really feel Lexus needs a new design crew.

To me, the LS and ES are virtual twins.

I do agree the rear of the cars look similar and I have caught myself doing double takes on the ES, thinking it was the LS at first.

No way.

I own the LS460, and my younger brother has the ES350.

There is a family resemblence, but the two are significantly distinguishable.

You say they look similar in the front and sides? Well, take a look:

Note how the LS grill is significantly wider than the ES. Also, if you ever stood in front of the two, the hood bulge of the LS is dramatic and powerful, whereas the ES is much more subtle (albeit bulky as well). Fog light design is different. The LS is chromed significantly around the grill and fog lights, while the ES has thinner lines of chrome.

As for the profile, I do have to agree that the roof line is similar, but you can distinguish the two by the corners of the windows. Note the difference in chrome thickness again around the windows. There are three "lanes" of chrome that travel on the LS: one is at the window edge, the second is the line of chrome from the headlights to the door handles to the taillights, and the third line of chrome is from the foglights to the side skirt to the exhaust. The ES does not have any of these distinctive lines. Finally, the "Bangle Butt" is more pronounced on the LS than the ES. The taillights are also distinguishable between the two.

its all part of the L-finesse thing. they look similar, but not enough to say they were separated at birth. the ES looks more "woman" like to me while the LS looks more manly. this is not a dis to all ES drivers, lmao

yeah my wife can't figure out the difference between c class and s class, go figure.

so what's the point, if you think that's such a big deal (that they really look similar), don't get a lexus by all means, no one is stretching you. lexus is following the l-finesse concept, like it or not that's how things are. and the fact is both cars sell like that.

i for one never get it wrong between the es350 and the ls460 from any angle. just like how i never make it wrong between any of the mb lineup. people who care will see the difference. otherwise it's no difference from a camry.

i am really tired of all the talk about "omg these lexus look all the same", while on the other hand mb all look similar. heck even cars like maserati and aston martin, they look similar too, so?

It's very easy to tell them apart, I almost never mistake an ES for an LS...

If you feel that the LS looks like an ES, and the 750 is looking better to you, then why aren't you on your way to the BMW dealership?

Its your money, so spend it as you please.

Personally, I think the reason why people keep saying the LS looks like a Camry, or ES, is because Lexus started its redesign from the bottom up, instead of the other way around like other companies. The new C class is very similar to the S class, however, the S class is usually redesigned before the rest of the line up, so it doesn't usually hurt the brand image. For some reason, I guess due to life cycles, it worked out the other way for Lexus, which is causing this entire fiasco.

The C, E and S all looked the same (prior to the S redesign). Mercedes frequently keeps the same general design across the board. The new C will also mimic the S according to spy shots. Lexus is doing the same thing which is not a bad thing as the general design is good looking.

I like the 7 also but keep in mind that the 7 is due for a total redesign in 1.5 years. If you really love the 7 then wait for the new one because it will be much better. I am going to buy the new 7 and then hand my LS down to my wife. A perfect plan!

Other posts say $1000 discount is a great deal. $3500 off is best I have seen. Who is your dealer?

This "that car looks the same as this" topic has become a pretty boring topic to me & pretty played out in many forums. If you look at any brand, you would find similarities among their models.
I've known people who can only recognize the MB logo & the BMW grille, but not much more than that, yes I have to explain to them before they can tell the differences(size etc.).

Sometimes the size differences is not that apparent behind those cars, the w220 S class & the current E & C class can look the same to many until they are close enough to read the badge.
It's the same from the front, they know it's a MB or a BMW sedan coming from behind because of the grille, but they can't tell what model it is. Some can't even tell the difference between a pontiac & a bimmer from a distance because of the similarity of the grille. These are people whose opinion you shouldn't care much about anyway.
