Default Ka-Ching? LS460 Prices

TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Lexus today announced pricing for the all-new 2007 LS 460 and the company's first-ever long-wheelbase model, the LS 460 L. The fourth-generation LS blends new levels of performance, sophistication, contemporary styling, and luxury refinements while redefining the full-size luxury-sedan segment. With a base Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $61,000 for the LS 460 and $71,000 for the LS 460 L, Lexus' new flagship luxury sedans will represent a compelling value in their segments.

I think this is a good starting price for the Lexus flagship. Go up from last generation but not too much, very good. I just hope Lexus would actually build some base LS460 and not all of them are loaded. The new LS is now "really" higher than 550i and E550, but still maintain a high value when compared to S550.

Default unusual price gap between SWB and LWB models

This means what I was saying in theory was not followed on SWB model but followed on LWB.

This is very interesting.

The price difference between SWB and LWB is 10,000$ and this is very unusual because BMW, Audi and Jaguar charge only 4,000$ extra for LWB.

May be Lexus was unnecessarily worried about sales loss if LS 460 makes a huge jump on SWB version, but I strongly believe these worries are unfounded no mater how much focus groups and marketing research they might have done. The best thing to do is to rely on trained intuition or hunch in these matters.

Only time will tell where Lexus is going with all this.

One suggestion I have for lexus and Jim Press and Bob Carter specifically and I hope they are listening to me is that depending upon sales response they should progressively raise the prices of SWB over the next two years with 2500$ jump every year to close the gap with Audi A8, otherwise the GS will have little space to expand in the future.

with all your posts in these forums, I would think you would know by now that L has a lot more equipment standard... which is why the price difference is that big.

"Base" versions will only be bought via special order, as cars coming in will have $5k-6k packages standard... (At least NAV and first upgrade package)....

I believe the LS460L comes standard with features that are optional on the LS460, hence the larger price gap. Nav is one of them.

Thankfully (or unfortunately for those bargain seekers), there will be no such "base" LS460 without nav, according to the LS460 allotment data posted in another thread.

I'm betting the $61,000 SWB pricetag will rarely be the case, as that is likely the truly basic version with no NAVI, no touchscreen, etc. It is still some $5,000 more than the LS 430 base.

The $71,000 LWB pricetag is a pretty ambitious one and shows Lexus moving up in the segment.

Does anyone remember how long it took Lexus to update their web site with prices on the other 2007 models after their press release? We still need to know all of the options pricing and configuration rules to really figure out what one of these is going to cost.

the 2007 ls prices will be out on lexus.com on october 20th...it gets updated there only the day of the release. with that, here is some LS 460 L option price info (this is what i was told)

lexus link $900
IPA $500
APGS $700
rear seat upgrade $1625
$81,000 + dest = a "loaded" car. what is defined as "loaded" is not known
$74,800 (apparently will only recieve 4) = and is the minimum options apparently.

The longer version will be a loaded model, that is why it has larger price gap..

I might sound a little fanboy-ish with this comment, but I think the new LS is gonna rip this segment apart with those prices. I cant believe how many options its comes with for 85K(compared to competitors). Heck even the base LWB model has more options than I would be happy with.

EDIT: So what is standard on the LS460?? I havent seen a standard feature listing.

The LS400 already ripped apart the segment.
The LS430 did it again.
Of course the LS460 is going to do it again... perhaps less LS460 and more LS600.
