Ikon gps device
My 2014 LS460 I bought from a BMW dealer had an IKON tracker installed since they put it on all of their new and used inventory. I never opted to have the account activated for myself, but the dealer still had access to it.
Two months after purchase, someone stole my LS from my overnight parking spot. I called IKON and they were congenial and sympathetic, and they immediately sent me a spreadsheet of the tracking data (GPS data with ground speed for the last 48 hours logged every few minutes stating whether car was in motion, stopped, started, and when engine was cut) and a screenshot of where the car was located once the car had been turned off. They activated "stolen mode" and alerted the local police. The dealer helped out and confirmed a few days later that the tracker was still in the same location. The police were slow in my area to retrieve it due to local laws and the sheer overwhelm of vehicles stolen on a regular basis in my city. It was parked under a lean-to in someone's backyard and retrieved 5 days after it was stolen. For whatever reason, Lexus vehicles were a popular target in my city around that time. Mine was just joyridden, nothing stolen from it apart from the front license plate bracket.
Moral of the story, I knew quickly where the car stopped and the police retrieved it in under 30 days. The BMW dealer said they could activate an IKON account for me for $500 to start then charge an annual fee, but I think I might go with a lo-jack system at some point in the future. It costs more up front, but the year to year cost ends up cheaper.
