LS460 Mark Levinson subwoofer replacement is easy
Hi guys,
I know it’s not uncommon for our Mark Levinson subwoofers to go bad and there isn’t much info on people replacing their units so I hope this helps.
My subwoofer was rattling a little bit so I replaced it.
I have the Australian version of the car which means it has all the possible options except the ottoman seat and massager.
You don’t have to remove the seats!
Steps:
1. Pull the two Velcro pieces apart on the rear deck (they are attached to leather flaps).
2. There are two white clips holding the rear deck in place, pull the tab out and pry it open. There are also two small black plastic rivets which you can just pry off using a flathead screwdriver.
3. There is a plastic piece behind the middle rear headrest. Just pull at it backwards and up (just jiggle it a bit, not too hard and it will come out eventually).
4. Take out the 3 child seatbelt plastic tabs and lift the rear deck so it clears the metal hooks from the removed tabs.
*now you have enough room to just lift the rear deck and access the subwoofer!*
5. There is one cable attached to the subwoofer, it is a white cable, unplug it.
6. There are four 10mm hexagonal bolts holding on to the subwoofer. Get your wrench and unscrew them. The working room is terrible but I know you can do it! If it helps, you can remove the two air vents on either side of the rear deck to get in there with your wrench.
7. Next, literally just take the old one out and do the reverse order of these steps.
All in all, not that hard, was able to work it out myself. The working room was painful and my hand is a bit hurt, but my speakers sound so nice now. Takes about an hour of work if you’re focused. Also be prepared to do some gymnastics in your backseat
