At 114K mile inspection on my 2011 LS460, the Upper Control Arms were badly worn and were replaced.
It's my understanding that Lexus redesigned the upper control arms in the 2013 model year. How can I tell if the control arms installed on my car are the "old" design or the newer arms??
No real way. Perhaps you can take a look at detailed parts bill? Part numbers were bumped several times throughout.
ADD: afaik for 2011 dealer parts system will automatically suggest latest part no. Also, no redesign per se. All changes are internal/not visible.
I believe the upper and lower control arm bushings were revised in 2010/2011, any old inventory should long gone.
The revised upper control arm bushings are wider, I don't think you will be able to see them without removing at wheels.
For quick identification, the revised upper control arms have very long ball joint studs, they extend an inch beyond the nut. Below is a picture of original control arms/ball joints, note the short studs.
