Headlight Issues
I have recently acquired a 2009 LS460, but the main issues are with the headlights. A few days ago, I was pulled over for driving without a passenger headlight. The next morning I tried it out and saw no issues- the passenger headlight turned on fine. With later experimentation, I discovered that the “AUTO” headlight feature was what was not turning it on. If I were to put the headlight stock in the “ON” position, there would be no issues. What can I do to address this? Is there a separate fuse? Relay maybe?
Additionally, the driver’s side headlight is “popped out of place”. Meaning the housing that holds the glass sphere has been moved in front of the main headlight housing. This impacts the AFS and vertical adjustment of the light and overall looks poor. I tried to forcefully move it back into place without luck. Any tips would be very welcome.
Thank you to everyone, I am excited to add more to this great forum!

Hello,
I think you'll get your answers, at least one of them if you search the forums. It sounds like your car may have been in an accident because the headlights shouldn't "pop out" normally. Go to the top of this forum and search for "headlight replacement" and it will give you a good start.
Good luck!

I think the most likely cause of your headlight problem is a wornout bulb. The LS460s have HID headlights and the bulbs have a limited life. What you are experiencing is typical of a HID bulb at the end of its life. It is unlikely that anything else is wrong. The correlation with the “AUTO” feature is probably just a coincidence.
If you are a DIYer there is lots of information in this forum regarding HID bulb replacement.
Getting a replacement at a dealer is expensive.
If the other bulb has the same number of operating hours you probably should replace both of them.

Thank you! I will replace the bulbs and report back.
As for the “popped out” headlight, are you sure the only solution is a full replacement? There were never accidents reported and there aren’t any solutions to putting it back in place? No damage can be seen inside of the housing so I would hate to spend the money when there may be other ways to put it back to normal.
Thanks for the help!

The headlights are sealed. If you want to try getting them open, trying to fix the interior, you may be able to. know that there are no parts available for interior of light. I'd don't recall anyone here posting about doing it in the many years I've been a member. An option you may like is to buy a used headlight assembly.
