Default Tire replacement intervals

I have a 2008 Lexus LS 460 base. When I got it, I replaced the aftermarket rims with stock rims and got some cheap tires at the time. That was 102,600 miles.

I replaced them 18 months later with Continental Contact Sport+ tires at 125,306 for 22,706 miles for the cheap tires. Not bad for the 30k mileage they're generally good for.

I just had my Continentals rotated, and I just found out that I'm already at 5/32 on my tires (been installed for about 15 months) so in about 2 months I'll need to replace them again. I'm at 140,700 miles now, so I've only put on a little less than 16,000 miles?

This is my first luxury car and I'm trying to take good care of it... but damn, that's not a lot of miles for these tires.

Since I'll replace them with 60% off of the next set of tires, I'll upgrade to Michelins to get more tread life, but... is this normal?

And yes, I do rotate my tires every 5,000 miles and keep them inflated about 35-37 psi.

It's a HEAVY 5K lbs car!

I'm averaging about 18 months to get to 3/32, regardless of whatever mileage the manufacturer claims they'll last.

The last few sets, I've been getting the old tires prorated since they didn't last anywhere near what the manufacturer states, so out of pocket cost for a new set of rubbers hasn't been too bad. I go to Americas tire.

Agreed and I also use Amerca's Tire.

So I'll upgrade to some Michelin's in about 6 weeks. It'll only be about $750 after the mileage warranty is factored in.

I will bet money your suspension needs to be replaced. I had a blowout issue on mine and my prorated replacement process involved measuring old/vs new and the PSAS4 I had was wearing exactly on schedule for 45k mikes lifespan at 15k

So I can tell you a car that had its entire front suspension replaced at the same times tires were replaced wears normally/on time.

I did just replace the rear struts about a year ago, so I'm not sure that would be an issue?

On my 2010 LS460L I average about 38,000 miles on my 19 inch P7's. The P7's are a 60,000 or 70,000 mile rated tire but I come no where close to that. These are heavy cars and are hard on tires.

Re suspension. It's more than struts. We all know about control arms but there are also sway bars, engine and transmission mounts, ball joints, wheel bearings and more. They all affect the other components and can cause wear. All you need to do is get the car on a lift and have these components checked. If they are OK, It cost you $150 to eliminate potential issues. Tire rack is a great place to find tires that last longer but you'll give up ride comfort and more noise. No one tire does it all. I do like the P7s myself.
