Default Wing morror

Hello,

The drivers side wing mirror does not retract, everything else works.
I think perhaps in the past a car has hit it and it has home really back??

I don't want to buy a new mirror but been told can replace the wire or metal wire?
can you advise please or give me a part number.
Also is it easy to open up?
thanks

Brill, thank you for this

Everything works on the existing mirror, and you can hear the motor working too, it sounds like the cable or connector lead has snapped or unclipped when the mirror was forced right back.

Looks quite complicated as I cannot do this kind okind of work.

How easy is it to open up the mirror?

Thanks

You might get lucky. There are a few screws that are known to come loose. If you hear your motor trying to retract / extend I believe you just need to add some thread lock to the screws and tighten them up. You don't need to remove the mirror from the car.

Sound like the plastic claws are worn down..
just like the things in a clock to make motion.
If I was you buy online a working mirror and sell yours online to get some $$ back cause not everyone cares about the folding mirror.

Ebay is a good source for used mirrors and mirror parts. Finding the right color and the correct options sometimes is a waiting game. Considering the cost of labor, it is usually less expensive to replace the entire mirror. While there are electrical wires inside, no cables, only gears and electric motors.

The labour and time taken is the issue and it is easier to swop over, but it needs to colour match, so would want to use existing mirror casing, again all time consuming

Yup, it's going to cost you some money any way you go about it. Let us know what you do and how it turns out.

Not really, I will ask a friend mechanic to open it up and we take it from there, if it.connector loose or disconnected will start there.
If it bothers me will source one from eBay and take it from there.

It's probably just the loose screws there is a TSB out for this problem. It includes replacement screws that have thread lock on them.

https://car-part.com/

You might get lucky and find the full mirror that color matches your car.
